Overwatch is an online multiplayer shooter phenomenon with a diverse range of characters. This list explores some of the most popular female playable heroes in the game, from D.Va to Tracer, and explains why each one has become so beloved by fans.

Pharah

Pharah is a fearless aerospace engineer and security agent from the fictional city of Giza. This Overwatch hero’s iconic Rocket Launcher has eliminated many opponents over the course of gaming sessions, making her one of the most feared female characters in the game. She also makes use of her jump jets to help out her allies and unleash relentless barrages.

Tracer

Tracer is the face of Overwatch, and although she was initially introduced as a playable character in 2016, this time-traveler has been around for much longer. Armed with dual pulse pistols and her ability to deflect bullets with her speed, she has inspired many players to pick up the hero shooter. In addition to being able to control her own travel in time, Tracer can also rewind the actions taken by other characters on the battlefield.

Widowmaker

Widowmaker is a deadly sniper assassin and one of the most powerful characters in Overwatch. Her background story revealed that she was once a married woman named Amélie Lacroix, until her spouse was kidnapped by Talon and mechanically modified against her will. Now equipped with enhanced vision, sniper rifle and a venomous mine, Widowmaker uses these abilities to take down anyone who stands in her way.

Symmetra

Symmetra is an Indian architect and a genius-level inventor who employs photon projection technology for combat. She received her unique light navel powers from Vishahar, an antique worshiper of the Hindu goddess of light and beauty. Her purpose is to bring order to the chaotic world by creating objects and structures which helps people achieve higher understanding. She acts as a beacon of hope in Overwatch, representing hope in times of adversity.

Mercy

Mercy, also known as Angela Ziegler, is a Swiss doctor turned field medic for Overwatch. She joined the organization in order to use her healing abilities and expertise in battlefield medicine to save lives. Her unique CaduceusStaff device has built-in teleportation capabilities allowing her to dash around the battlefield quickly, providing essential medical care where it’s needed the most. Her signature catchphrase “Heroes never die.” encapsulates her spirit of heroism and determination.
