About this event

RSL Revival

Overview

RSL Revival is an A-Tier StarCraft II (Legacy of the Void) 1v1 tournament series organized by TastelessTV (also known as ReviveSC2). It primarily features Korean players with limited international qualifiers and is held entirely online from South Korea. The series launched in June 2025 to revive competitive StarCraft II play through regular seasons, each with a prize pool of approximately ₩10,000,000 KRW (roughly $6,800–7,250 USD). It is broadcast primarily on YouTube and maintains a focus on high-level LotV gameplay in a consistent double-elimination format.

History

RSL Revival was founded in 2025 by Nick "Tasteless" Plott and other Seoul-based community members under the ReviveSC2 banner, with support from Archon Studio. The project began as a response to declining official support for StarCraft II esports, aiming to sustain the scene through regular online seasons. Season 1 ran from June 17 to July 13, 2025. Subsequent seasons followed in September–November 2025, culminating in an offline finals event in Seoul on December 13–14, 2025. The series continued into 2026 with Season 4 (March 7–April 5) and Season 5 (May 2–31). No major format changes have occurred; the structure has remained stable across all editions.

Format

Each season features 16 players. Qualification combines direct invitations (top performers from the previous season), server-based open qualifiers (Americas, Europe, Korea), and fan voting. The tournament uses a group stage followed by playoffs:

  • Group Stage: Four groups of four players in a dual-tournament format. All matches are best-of-3; top two from each group advance.
  • Playoffs: Double-elimination bracket. Upper Bracket quarterfinals and semifinals are best-of-5; Upper Bracket final, Lower Bracket final, and Grand Final are best-of-7. Lower Bracket rounds are best-of-5 except the final.

All events are online with Korean servers. The current map pool for Season 5 includes 10000 Feet LE, At Eternity's Edge, Celestial Enclave LE, Exarch, Missing You Today, Necropolis, Old Republic LE, Rorschach, and Ruby Rock LE.

Notable Editions

Season 1 (June–July 2025) marked the series debut and established its A-Tier status with strong participation. Season 3 (November 2025) served as the final online qualifier before the December 2025 offline Grand Finals in Seoul—the first in-person event in the series. Season 4 (March–April 2026) saw MaxPax claim the title in a notable international performance. Season 5 (May 2026) is ongoing as of mid-May 2026, with group stage completed and playoffs underway.

  • Season 2 (2025): Winner Classic, runner-up Zoun.

Viewership & Impact

RSL Revival streams exclusively on the official YouTube channel @ReviveSC2, with additional coverage on community platforms. Specific concurrent viewership figures are not publicly detailed in available sources, though the series has been positioned as a key grassroots effort to sustain StarCraft II esports in Korea amid reduced Blizzard-supported events. It has fostered consistent high-level competition and provided a platform for both established Korean pros and select international players. The project maintains active community support via Patreon (patreon.com/ReviveSC2) and social channels.
