The Valorant Range Map serves as the perfect practice ground for new players and seasoned veterans alike. Designed to help players develop skills, test agent abilities, and improve weapon control, The Range offers valuable tools for improving performance and understanding Valorant's in-depth lore. This guide provides everything you need to know about each feature, training mode, and secret hidden within the Range.

Map Overview

The Valorant Range Map, found in the Practice menu, lets players train with different agents and weapons. Set on a floating island, it's a piece of Venetian land suspended after a spike explosion. Players navigate diverse settings, from urban ruins to training areas, each supporting various exercises.

Basic Training

When new players launch Valorant for the first time, they are introduced to the Basic Training mode. Here, agents like Brimstone, Jett, Sova, and Sage guide players through foundational skills. This training mode is a must for players new to Valorant's mechanics, covering:

  • Movement: Learn standard movement patterns, including walking, crouching, and basic strafe movement, crucial for positioning and dodging.
  • Shooting and Recoil Control: Players practice handling the initial arsenal, learning recoil patterns, and how shooting while moving affects accuracy.
  • Spike Planting and Defusal: Through a mock Ascent scenario, players are guided on planting and defusing the Spike, a core mechanic of Valorant’s tactical play.

The basic tutorial concludes with an optional Bot Match for console users, allowing them to test learned skills against AI opponents.

The Range Modes

Once players have completed Basic Training, they can enter The Range for more focused practice. Here, all agents and weapons are unlocked, allowing unrestricted exploration and testing. Players can freely swap agents to try out new abilities, helping them determine which agents and loadouts best suit their play style.

Shooting Range

The Shooting Range is one of the most popular training options within The Range. Here, players can improve their aim by adjusting settings and difficulty to create challenging target-practice exercises.

  • Aim Sensitivity Control: Players can fine-tune their aim sensitivity by using controls that adjust aim by either 0.1 or 0.01 increments. This feature is essential for players who want to optimize their reaction time and shot accuracy.
  • Skills Test: A series of training bots spawn in the area, and players can fine tune the challenge to better hone their skills.

Target Practice

Outside the shooting range, players will find a Target Practice area equipped with an adjustable target board. Players can set the board at various distances, from 5 to 50 meters, to simulate long- and short-range scenarios.

  • Accuracy Tests: Players can test each weapon's precision at different distances to gain insight into recoil patterns and bullet spread.
  • Damage Calculations: Players can position a dummy bot at set distances to observe how much damage a weapon or ability deals over varying ranges.

Spike Planting and Defusing

The Spike Planting and Defusing areas provide a realistic, simulated experience for players. Accessible from the main menu or via teleport in the Shooting Range, this mode lets players practice planting or defusing the Spike against bots, improving their skills without the high-stakes pressure of a live game.

  • Training Area Layout: The Spike Planting area is modeled after the B Site on the map Ascent, giving players a realistic setup where they can apply learned tactics in real scenarios.
  • Adjustable Difficulty: Players can set the bot difficulty in this mode as well, facing off against bots of varying skill levels to better simulate the quick decisions needed in real Valorant matches.

Hidden Secrets and Lore

The Valorant Range Map offers much more than just training, and it’s also packed with hidden lore details that expand the game’s story. Players can explore offices and various objects linked to the game’s characters and unfolding narrative.

Brimstone and Cypher's Offices

The offices of Brimstone and Cypher serve as lore hubs within the Range. Brimstone’s office contains a laptop and phone with emails and voicemails that update with each patch, providing insight into recent story developments. Cypher’s office includes a laptop with an audio log, which also changes periodically. In some updates, Cypher himself appears in the Range, providing hints about the latest storyline.

Reality Distortion Areas

The Range features a unique visual element with a "reality distortion" effect visible across parts of the map, similar to areas on Ascent. Large, rift-like structures hover over the Range, creating an eerie atmosphere and hinting at the map’s close ties to other major events in Valorant’s lore, including the Venice spike disaster.

Easter Eggs

In several patches, Riot Games has added unique, interactive objects and NPCs in the Range that act as Easter eggs. For example, in certain updates, players have found an Alarmbot that reacts to another nearby Alarmbot, displaying a heart icon. Additionally, these Easter eggs change with patches, so it’s worth revisiting the Range frequently to discover what’s new.

Parkour Course and Movement Practice

The Parkour Course in the Valorant Range Map is a hidden gem that tests a player’s movement and agility. This course, which starts near the Shooting Range, is marked by handprints and footprints that guide players along the route. It features narrow ledges, sharp turns, and elevated platforms, requiring careful timing and control to navigate successfully.

  • Course Mechanics: Players can reset their progress at checkpoints or use a reset button to start over from the beginning. A trophy awaits those who complete the course, containing a Tactibear as a reward.
  • Agent Abilities: While players are free to use any agent abilities to complete the course, it is designed to be completed without them. However, agents like Jett, with her unlimited updrafts in the Range, can make navigation easier for those needing extra help.

The Setting and Historical Context of The Range

The Range is inspired by the real-life abandoned island of Poveglia near Venice. Poveglia, known for its haunted history, once housed a hospital and asylum, traces of which appear throughout the Range map. Decaying beds and a rundown boathouse where players begin give the map an eerie, abandoned feel. Overgrown plants and graffiti enhance the sense of decay, making the Range feel reclaimed by nature after a disaster.

Map Updates and Revamps

In Patch 9.02, Riot Games introduced major changes to the Range. They restructured parts of the map to reflect a new lore perspective, showing the Range as a simulation in the Valorant HQ.

This change altered the spike plant/defuse training area, updated the visual distortions, and added a metal door to emphasize its simulated setting. Each update provides an evolving experience, encouraging players to check back regularly to see what's new in the Range.

The Valorant Range Map is more than a training ground. This versatile practice map is perfect for mastering skills, exploring agent abilities, and uncovering Valorant's lore.

With a shooting range, parkour course, and hidden lore, players can train for competitive matches while connecting to the game's story. The Range provides valuable tools for players of all levels to enhance their gameplay.
