VALORANT, Riot Games' 5v5 competitive first-person tactical hero shooter has a following and playerbase that spans the globe. With servers serving virtually every corner, you would be hard-pressed to not find a lobby.

However, sometimes you may not be connected to your best suited lobby. Maybe you're somehow playing in South American servers while in Asia. Or maybe you just can't play with your friends. Here's how to check and change your VALORANT Region of Residence.

Where Can I Find My VALORANT Account's Region of Residence

There are a few distinct markers that will clue you in when your account is connected to the wrong Region of Residence. First and foremost is certainly the ping. Each account is locked within a 'region shard', so you'll likely notice the lag from a high ping.

Another clue will be the available servers. Each 'region shard' will have a host of servers serving the region. However, if its not the correct region for your account, you'll note that you have poor connection to all the servers.

To check what region your account is under, follow the steps:

  • Head to 'Riot Accounts'.
  • Log in to the account in question.
  • Under Personal Information → Country/Region.

An account with the wrong Region of Residence may affect everything from server choices to available payment options, currency, and default language.

Both the Region of Residence and shard are based on your physical location when first creating the account. Example: creating your account in the United States will set your Region of Residence as USA and your shard as North America.

How Can I Change My Region of Residence?

Only Riot Games can change your Region of Residence, but there are 2 ways to request the change. Firstly, there is the Riot Support website check. Simply ensure you are logged into the account you wish to change and click 'Check'. Follow the following steps.

If the check fails, submit a ticket to Riot Support requesting the change to your account's Region of Residence.

Riot Support will ask you to confirm ownership of the account with a detailed list of questions including:

  • Username & Riot ID
  • Email Address
  • Current IP Address
  • Account Creation Date
  • Location of Account Creation (City, Country)
  • Last access period to the account
  • First bought item
  • Any Transaction ID (email)
  • Context

What Happens When I Change My Region of Residence?

The account's default language may change depending on what your new Region of residence is. You will also see a change in the server list as well as prices for VP.

Most details will carry over. However, your account will lose any current ranked season data, purchase history, match history, and Night Market skin offers.

Region of Residence changes can only be done once every 90 days.

Note:

  • Accounts in the South Korea RoR cannot move to the Japan RoR
  • Accounts not created in the South Korea RoR cannot be moved to the South Korea RoR
  • RoR changes to China are not available.
  • When you change your Region of Residence, your shard will match
