A new wave of penalties has hit around 10,000 players in VALORANT for using third-party tools, according to Rioter Mohamed, known as GamerDoc, a member of Riot Games' anti-cheat team. In a post on X on Monday (September 15), he said the action targeted users of services tied to instalocking, name revealing and stream sniping.

GamerDoc also indicated that this will not be a one-off action. According to the analyst, the team will continue issuing penalties as it improves detection for this type of tool and identifies more users. He put the figure at around 10,000 affected players, but Riot has not separately published an official breakdown of the operation.

"We just launched a ban wave and actioned 10k~ players using instalockers and name revealing / stream sniping tools and will continue to action anybody using these tools. This is a new surface area for us, so we will continue to iterate on this tech and will ban you if we catch you."

Riot Had Already Warned Players About Penalties

The ban wave comes just a few weeks after Riot publicly outlined its new stance against these tools. In the Patch 13.05 notes, released on September 1, the developer said it had begun issuing penalties for detected use of stream-sniping and instalock tools.

Riot also explained that players detected using these tools would receive temporary game bans. Repeated use can escalate the penalty to a permanent ban.

GamerDoc's latest post shows that enforcement of the policy has now reached a considerable scale. Responding to a user who asked specifically about instalock apps, the analyst said any service that allows Agents to be instalocked or names to be revealed can result in a ban, regardless of who developed the tool.

"Anything hitting a service allowing instalocking agents or revealing names is bannable regardless of who made it."

The response helps define the scope of the measure. The focus is not limited to programs traditionally associated with cheats, but also includes third-party services capable of providing information or performing actions that Riot considers an unauthorized advantage.

Among the examples cited by GamerDoc are tools that reveal player identities when VALORANT is supposed to hide them and services that allow Agents to be instalocked. The analyst's initial post also links the action to tools used for stream sniping.

This means an app's origin or popularity is not, by itself, the criterion for determining whether it is allowed. According to GamerDoc's explanation, what matters is whether the service offers functionality that Riot considers punishable.
