The much anticipated debut of Kang "TheShy" Seung-lok and Song "Rookie" Eui-jin at the 2024 Demacia Cup in their return to Invictus Gaming has come and gone, and it could not have been any better.

With a wholly revamped roster, iG took center stage during Group D of Demacia Cup today. All eyes, however, were on the South Korean duo of TheShy and Rookie as the team looked entirely revitalized to begin this new chapter in their journey.

Rookie and TheShy return in full force

As the LPL prepares for its return in 2025, teams are still kicking into gear at the Demacia Cup. And for Invictus Gaming, the tournament is proving to be a show room for their returning top-mid star duo.

With TheShy and Rookie leading the charge, it was no surprise that the team's opening game against an inexperienced LGD Youth Team did not pose too much trouble for the former World Champs. The true display, however, came during iG's second game of Group D.

Against the former LPL powerhouse of RNG, Invictus Gaming put on an absolute clinic as they ran away with the victory after just 16 minutes of gametime. Rookie, in particular, was stellar on Sylas, finishing the game with an 11/1/7 scoreline.

Ultimately, the Ninjas in Pyjamas would pose more of a challenge for this new iG lineup to close out Group D. Invictus Gaming and their superior teamfighting, however, came in clutch when they needed it most, crushing NiP in the final fight of the game to secure a 3-0 finish in the group.

Now, the next stop of the iG hype train will be at the Demacia Cup quarterfinals on Tuesday, December 24th. There, TheShy and Rookie will face their toughest challenge yet in the form of a revamped Top Esports that promises to compete for all LPL trophies in 2025.

Having led Invictus Gaming to the team's first and only World Championship trophy back in 2018, only time will tell what the new iG ceiling will be with TheShy and Rookie at the helm. The signs so far, though, having been nothing but great.
