Camavor was once a mighty kingdom on the eastern continent of Runeterra. Its history is marked by conquest, betrayal, and tragedy. Known for its powerful rulers, knightly orders, and dragons, Camavor eventually fell apart under the reign of its last king, Viego. The downfall of this once-great empire led directly to one of the darkest events in League of Legends lore—the Ruination.

This article explores the origins, culture, and fate of Camavor, from its founding to its final collapse.

The Origins of Camavor

Camavor was founded by twin siblings, Camor and Avora. Camor was a warlord who sought to expand his domain by conquering nearby territories. To strengthen his army, he made a pact with Grandmother Viper, the progenitor of the Camavoran dragons.

In exchange for riches and livestock, the dragons lent their power to Camor’s army. This pact, known as the Vol Visperi-Desinvei, bound the royal family of Camavor to the dragons for generations. The bond between man and dragon defined Camavor’s early might and prestige.

When the Black Arrow of Astora struck Camor, his sister Avora used Mikael’s Chalice to heal him from the brink of death. Camor’s sword, Sanctity, symbolized Camavor’s royal authority. Any ruler who survived the ritual of binding their soul to the blade earned the crown as king or queen.

The Great Darkin War

During the Great Darkin War, Camavor became entangled in the chaos spreading across Runeterra. A Camavoran prince was traded to the Darkin as a hostage to preserve peace. This prince was Vladimir.

When his father broke the treaty, Vladimir chose vengeance. He led the Darkin armies against his homeland and destroyed it. The Darkin master who enslaved him found amusement in teaching Vladimir the art of hemomancy, or blood magic. This act forever marked Vladimir as one of Camavor’s most infamous figures.

The Darkin War left Camavor scarred but standing. Its rulers rebuilt what they could, maintaining their ties to the dragons and the knightly orders that protected the throne.

The Reign of King Viego

Centuries later, Viego ascended to the throne after his brother’s death. Young, emotional, and unfit for leadership, he placed his devotion to his wife Isolde above his duties as king. Under his rule, Camavor began to crumble.

Viego’s obsession with his queen grew after an assassination attempt poisoned her. Despite efforts by his niece Kalista, commander of the army, and the Iron Order’s leader Hecarim, no cure could be found. Kalista discovered that the Blessed Isles held a way to cleanse the poison, but when she returned, Isolde was already dead.

Overcome with grief, Viego lost control of the kingdom. Hecarim used the chaos to his advantage, convincing the king to wage war in the name of vengeance. Towns burned, and countless lives were lost.

When Kalista refused to reveal the secret of the Blessed Isles, she was branded a traitor. Eventually, she gave in under pressure and led the king’s forces to the Isles—an act that doomed them all.

The Ruination

On the Blessed Isles, Viego demanded the resurrection of his queen. When the guardians refused, he attacked. Hecarim slew Kalista, and the army ravaged the city of Helia.

A custodian named Thresh guided Viego to the Waters of Life. When the ritual revived Isolde as a wraith, she killed Viego in despair. The clash between the Waters and Viego’s sword, Sanctity, unleashed a wave of destructive magic. The Isles transformed into the Shadow Isles, and the Black Mist trapped the souls of the dead.

The Ruination ended Camavor’s era. The destruction or corruption of its people erased the kingdom, its knights became spectral horrors, and its dragons either fled or died.

Aftermath and the Rune Wars

The death of Viego marked the true fall of Camavor. Records of the kingdom were lost during the Rune Wars, and what remained of its civilization faded into legend.

Camavor’s military strength, once unmatched, dissolved after the Ruination. Its knightly orders, including the Iron Order, became part of the haunting army of wraiths that now roam the Shadow Isles.

The Return of the Ruined King

Centuries later, during the Rise of the Sentinels event, Viego returned. He sought to reunite Isolde’s fragmented soul using dark magic. His actions reignited conflict across Runeterra.

With the help of heroes like Gwen, Akshan, and the Sentinels of Light, Viego was finally defeated. Gwen bound him with the Hallowed Mist, imprisoning him within the remnants of Camavor—his once-great kingdom turned to ruin.

The Kingdom and Its People

The Royal Family

Camavor was ruled by the Vol Kalah Heigaari bloodline, known for their ambition and ties to dragonkind. The royal court held immense power, but infighting and betrayal often plagued it.

The Military

Camavor’s army was divided into the Host and the Knightly Orders. The Host consisted of common soldiers, while the Knightly Orders were elite groups of noble warriors. The most feared among them was the Iron Order, led by Hecarim. Their armor, ornate and dragon-themed, symbolized their loyalty to the throne.

The Dragons of Camavor

Camavoran dragons were long, serpent-like creatures with multiple tails. They were proud and powerful, loyal to the royal bloodline through their ancient pact. After the Ruination, many perished or were corrupted by the Black Mist. Only a few, such as Smolder and his mother, are believed to remain alive today.

The Culture of Camavor

Camavor’s culture revolved around strength, honor, and loyalty to the crown. The knights followed a code of conquest, often fighting for glory rather than justice.

Its artifacts, especially Sanctity, played a central role in royal rituals. The blade’s ability to call upon the souls of past kings symbolized the enduring link between Camavor’s rulers and their ancestors.

The people of Camavor admired the dragons and viewed them as divine protectors. Over time, this reverence faded into fear as the pact between dragon and king brought both blessing and curse.

Legacy of Camavor

Camavor’s story is one of power consumed by grief. Its fall gave birth to the Shadow Isles and set the stage for countless tragedies across Runeterra.

The kingdom’s legacy lives on through its champions—Viego, Gwen, Kalista, Hecarim, and Vladimir. Each carries a piece of its history, from the glory of conquest to the torment of loss.

Camavor stands as a warning within League of Legends lore: even the strongest empires can crumble when ruled by obsession and pride.
