Team Secret has revealed their Dota 2 roster for the upcoming 2024-2025 season. The team is led by veteran and founder Clement "Puppey" Ivanov. The rest of the squad consists of relatively new and unknown players.

The recruited players continue a trend that Team Secret has had for years. Focusing on upcoming stars from Eastern Europe and Asia. While these players have been in the scene for a few years, they are still inexperienced to the highest level of competitive play.

Bilguun "423" Altanginj will be the team carry. He is perhaps the most well-known player among the new recruits. His most recent success was winning the RES SEA regionals to qualify for the championship in Serbia. 423 is an active carry, playing space making heroes such as Broodmother, Nature's Prophet, and Morphling. It's clear that Puppey feels comfortable with a carry similar to his former teammate Remco "Crystallis" Arets.

The mid lane will be filled by Aleksey "Ainkrad" Diveevskiy. His most recent success was making it to Games of the Future, where his team One Move placed among last in the tournament. Ainkrad hasn't played competitively in nearly five months, so it's a mystery how he will play on Team Secret.

Batsaikhan "seimei" Munkhjin played with 423 on Team Tough. He showcased an aggressive offlane style, playing heroes who can get solo kills such as Night Stalker and Windranger. He can also play standard offlaners if needed. Overall, seimei hasn't had notable success or playstyle in the past.

Misha "Kyzko" Galkin is a name I haven't seen before. He has played with Nightshade Esports since 2023. Kyzko takes multiple long breaks from the competitive scene, sometimes not competing for two years. He caught Team Secret's eye when he played for the team in the PGL Wallachia Qualifiers and helped secure a third place finish. He was notable for making incredible space with Nyx Assassin.

Rating the new Team Secret

Predicting if a team will have success in the future is guess work at best. How teams gel together, stay motivated, recover from losses, are all difficult things to measure.

All the players on the new Team Secret are incredibly high MMR, with the cores in the top 100 on the leaderboards. So there is no lack of mechanical talent here.

Leadership isn't lacking either. Puppey is a an expert among experts at guiding teams, whether it's new stars or old hands. His performance as a stand-in for Navi reminded everyone that Puppey remains a force to be reckoned with.

But Team Secret hasn't looked strong for nearly two years, since their second place finish at The International 2022. Since then they have tried to rebuild several times and failed to make deep tournament runs, apart from BetBoom Dacha in 2023.

Team Secret will compete in the upcoming ESL Bangkok Qualifiers for Eastern Europe. I would not be surprised if they qualified for the LAN event or got last place. But I do have some hope that Secret will acquaint themselves relatively well and make it to the main event.

Time will tell, it always does.
