The Counter-Strike legend, Oleksandr "s1mple" Kostyliev, is returning to the competitive scene, joining Team Falcons on a three-month loan from Natus Vincere (NAVI). The news broke today and is already trending in the Counter-Strike community.

s1mple will replace the Spanish AWPer Álvaro "SunPayus" García on the starting lineup, giving Falcons a potential boost as they prepare for key tournaments, including the Perfect World Shanghai Major.

A Fresh Start in CS2

s1mple, widely regarded as the greatest Counter-Strike player of all time, has been on the sidelines since October 2023. His return to CS2 marks the end of a nearly year-long absence, with only one match played during that time—ironically also with Team Falcons at the BLAST Premier Spring Showdown, where they lost to Metizport.

This comeback, however, is different. s1mple is rejoining Falcons as their primary sniper, a role he excels in, replacing SunPayus, who had been one of the team's highest-rated players with an average rating of 1.13 over nine months.

Falcons’ recent struggles and why s1mple is a game-changer

Falcons' performance in 2024 has been inconsistent. After reaching the semifinals at IEM Katowice early in the year, they struggled to maintain momentum, consistently dropping out of the top 10 and exiting several tournaments in the group stages. Their recent elimination from BLAST Premier Fall Final was the last straw for head coach Danny "zonic" Sørensen, who admitted to the need for changes.

Signing s1mple is not just a temporary patch—it’s a strategic move. Despite questions about his form in CS2, s1mple's legendary status in CS:GO makes him a formidable asset. His experience, combined with his world-class AWPing skills, could be the spark Falcons needs to reignite their 2024 campaign.

s1mple’s 'Road to Shanghai'

s1mple’s signing has been in the works since mid-September, with Falcons listing him as a substitute for the Perfect World Shanghai Major Europe RMR. The Ukrainian AWPer has been grinding FACEIT matches, recently playing 20 games in a single day, a clear sign that he's preparing to come back stronger than ever.

Looking Ahead

The move also comes amidst reports that Falcons are looking to bolster their roster even further, with rumors suggesting they are in talks to sign G2's Nikola "NiKo" Kovač after the Shanghai Major.

For now, all eyes are on s1mple as he prepares to lead Falcons into their upcoming matches. With his return, the question isn’t just whether Falcons can bounce back—but if s1mple can reclaim his throne as the undisputed king of Counter-Strike.

Falcons’ Roster:

  1. - Marco "Snappi" Pfeiffer
  2. - Peter "dupreeh" Rasmussen
  3. - Emil "Magisk" Reif
  4. - Pavle "Maden" Bošković
  5. - Oleksandr "s1mple" Kostyliev (on loan from NAVI)
  6. Danny "zonic" Sørensen (Coach)
  7. Álvaro "SunPayus" García (benched)

With the CS2 scene still finding its footing, s1mple’s return is a significant moment for both the player and the team. One thing is clear—the GOAT is back, and he's ready to leave his mark on Counter-Strike 2.
