RLCS Worlds Bundle Changes Payout After Paris Backlash
The RLCS World Championship bundle returns for the 2026 season finale with a new payout structure that shifts most revenue to teams and restricts individual awards to top-eight finishes. The change follows criticism of the Paris Major bundle, where three statistical award winners each earned over $90,000 despite early exits.
Paris Major Bundle and Community Reaction
The Paris Major introduced a community-funded bundle where 50% of net sales were split among all participating teams and the other 50% was divided equally between the winners of three statistical awards: Best Striker, Best Playmaker, and Best Savior.
Cristian “crr” Raigal, Ole “oaly” Door, and Nick “Chronic” Iwanski each received $91,657.50 from the bundle. Their teams did not reach the later stages of the tournament. At the same time, some top-eight teams earned less in total than individual stat leaders.
The model also created incentives for stat-padding in matches that were already decided. Community discussion focused on the mismatch between team results and individual payouts, and on the idea that a small group of players could claim a share equal to the entire team pool.
If you’re not a top 8 seed and have 0 chance of winning the tournament, why wouldn’t you just camp net, try and play for the saves accolade, and split it 3 ways? Huge compromise on competitive integrity if they don’t change this for next event - Slater “Retals” Thomas
New Bundle Structure for Worlds
The World Championship bundle goes on sale on September 1 for 1,100 Credits and runs until September 23. All net sales (after taxes, payment processing, and console platform fees) go to players and teams at the World Championship in Boston.
The bundle includes three limited-time items that will not return to the store:
- Head Turner Universal Decal
- Primetime Wheels
- Blue Chip Boost
The payout split is now 70% to teams and 30% to individual awards. Seventy per cent of net sales will be divided among the top 20 teams based on their final placement at Worlds. The remaining 30% will fund 12 individual award positions.
Individual Awards and Top-Eight Requirement
The 30% player pool is divided into two groups.
Three panel-voted awards will be decided by Epic Games and BLAST:
-
Tournament MVP: best overall performer across all games
-
Finals MVP: outstanding play in the 3v3 Finals
-
Breakthrough Performance: most impressive breakout player of the event
Nine additional payout positions come from three statistical categories across 3v3, 2v2, and 1v1:
-
Best Striker: highest average goals per game
-
Best Playmaker: highest average assists per game
-
Best Savior: most saves per goal allowed
Only players whose teams reach the top eight in their respective tournaments can receive the statistical awards. The top three in each category will be paid, with first place earning more than second and third.
Under the new model, individual award winners are expected to earn around a quarter of what the Paris stat leaders took home, instead of over $90,000 each.
Will Epic Games Satisfy the Community?
The Paris bundle showed that community-funded rewards can increase total payouts, but also that the split design can create friction between team results and individual earnings. The Worlds bundle addresses the main complaints by moving to a 70/30 team-to-player split, adding panel-voted awards, and restricting statistical payouts to top-eight teams.
Whether this satisfies the community will depend on how the new rules play out in Boston and on how transparent Epic Games and BLAST are about the final numbers. The top-eight requirement removes the most visible problem from Paris, where players with small sample sizes could lead statistical categories and claim large payouts. The larger team share also aligns the majority of bundle revenue with tournament placement.
If the system works as described, the Worlds bundle should reduce the perception that individual awards can outweigh team success. If issues remain, the structure can be adjusted again for future events.
