Earlier today, November 18th, Riot Games announced the decision to completely remove Talon from their esports leagues. This includes the LCP’s PSG Talon (League of Legends) and VCT Pacific’s TALON Esports (VALORANT).

LCP and VCT Pacific Announce Talon’s Termination

In both League of Legends and VALORANT, Riot Games cited “significant delays in payments to players and coaches” as the main reason for the termination.

Riot Games further elaborated that they granted the organization multiple extensions to resolve the financial issues, but Talon failed to fulfill the requirements, leading to their removal.

Talon in Financial Crisis

In their response to Riot Games’ announcement, Talon acknowledged their financial troubles. According to their statement, they were supposed to receive funding several months ago, but delays affected their business operations.

Talon’s financial issues were not hidden from the community. They surfaced when a crypto trader with the username “hedgedhog” called out the organization and its CEO for delayed interest repayment on a $1 million loan.

Many expected Riot Games to terminate the VALORANT partnership as a result of the fiscal debacle. The surprise, however, was the LCP termination. In League of Legends, as well as other esports, Talon is partnered with PSG (the French football giant), meaning they should operate smoothly. But despite backing from a massive multi-sport organization, a termination suggests Talon had dug a hole too deep for even Paris Saint-Germain to pull them out of.

What’s Next?

For the League of Legends team, the players and coaches of PSG Talon are now free agents and can explore opportunities. Meanwhile, Riot Games will search for a replacement for Talon’s slot in the LCP.

Similarly, for VALORANT, the players are allowed to explore their options while Riot opens an application process to find a suitable replacement for TALON. Once replacements are finalized, Riot Games will announce their decision.

For Talon, they are no longer partnered with PSG for their LoL division. Their R6 and DOTA 2 teams remain operational.
