Old G was one of the favourites to get promoted to Division I when they secured a Division II seat for the WEU DPC 2022-2023 Spring Tour. The team consisted of two back to back The Internationals Champions, Sébastien “Ceb” Debs and Topias “Topson” Taavitsainen, along with The International 2022 runner-up, Roman "Resolut1on" Fomynok. All the eyes were on Old G and the relegated Team Secret in their Division II runs. However, as Team Secret triumphs over the obstacles in the way, the other falters in theirs.

The disappointment

Both teams had a strong debut. Team Secret took a clean victory against Alliance, and Old G took a swift victory over Into The Breach. Team Secret slowly gained momentum and recovered to its full potential as the Spring Tour progressed. Eventually, Team Secret was promoted back to Division I for the Summer Tour. On the other hand, things didn’t go as planned for Old G.

Following their debut series, Old G struggled to find their footing. Despite having a good strategy and gameplay, something was lacking in Old G’s execution. After losing to D2 Hustlers and The Ancient Tribe, the team was at risk of getting eliminated from the DPC 2022-2023 season. The team bounced back in their series against Ivy, but they lost to Puck Champ. Old G had to play a tiebreaker series against Puck Champ to keep their Divison II spot.

Ceb outrages on Twitter

As Old G’s players loan two of their players as a standin’ for The Berlin Major, no tiebreaker series took place and the team was granted an auto-lose. Getting directly disqualified without a chance to defend their spot, Ceb took to Twitter to express his disappointment. Ceb stated they were not allowed to reschedule, and the staff weren’t helpful. Ceb’s tweet was met with backlash as the community stood by the PGL’s decision not to let anyone mangle the rules.
