The BLAST Slam I playoffs have officially commenced, delivering a thrilling first day packed with action and unexpected twists. HEROIC had the spotlight with a remarkable underdog performance, eliminating Team Spirit in a stunning upset. However, the series between Team Falcons and OG garnered even more attention.

There was a production issue during the deciding match between Team Falcons and OG. As the teams battled fiercely for over an hour in a nail-biting showdown, the server crash disrupted the momentum, forcing a complete restart of the match. As a result, Team Falcons eventually eliminated OG.

What happened in the series

The BLAST Slam I playoffs follow a single-elimination bracket format, meaning every series is a do-or-die affair. Teams must secure victory to advance, as a single loss spells the end of their tournament journey.

The deciding match saw OG initially seizing control, making all the right moves. They secured key objectives and threatened Falcons’ chances of advancing in the tournament. Despite being on the back foot Team Falcons refused to throw in the towel. Fighting back with determination, they forced favourable skirmishes against OG and edged closer to a dramatic turnaround. A turning point came when Falcons seized the Divine Rapier from OG’s safelane, swinging momentum intensively in their favour.

But just as the 80-minute mark approached, disaster struck—a server crash interrupted the game. Despite the production team’s best efforts to resolve the issue, the delay stretched to a full hour. Ultimately, both teams agreed to restart the deciding match.

The restart proved pivotal for Team Falcons. This time, they learned from their earlier mistakes and seized the opportunity with conviction. Dominating the second deciding game, they closed it out in just 44 minutes, decisively eliminating OG from the tournament.

The Community Reaction

Following the series, the Dota 2 community was split over the decision to remake the deciding game. While some fans praised the match for its sheer entertainment value, others voiced strong disapproval. They argued that the remake gave Team Falcons a competitive edge.

Critics pointed out that OG’s draft was intended to be a surprise strategy, carefully tailored to catch their opponents off guard. The remake, however, allowed Team Falcons to reassess and adapt their strategies ultimately leading to their victory.

After eliminating OG from the tournament, Team Falcons advanced to the second round of the playoffs. They will be facing Gaimin Gladiators in their upcoming series. Be sure tune in to Strafe, as we will be covering all the latest actions unfolding at BLAST Slam I.
