Agents are the quintessential ‘X-factor’ element in VALORANT. In a tactical shooter where everyone has access to the same cache of weapons, the agent YOU pilot and your familiarity with the agent can often become the ultimate deciding factor if you win or lose a match.

Starting Out in VALORANT - The Newbie’s Beginner Toolbox

WIth that said, every new VALORANT account has access to the same 5 starting agents: Jett, Sova, Brimstone, Sova, and Phoenix.

While the starting toolbox of agents allows new players to try out all 4 roles - duelist, initiator, sentinel, and controller - each agent is designed to be unique enough to stand on their own. Hence, it's hard to get a clear image of the role you might end up preferring just by the little taste provided.

Along with the starting agents, each new account is also provided with a short battlepass, in which a further 2 ‘Free Agents’ can be earned and claimed.

That is where each account will begin to pivot into the direction the player prefers. You also are not obligated to immediately spend the ‘Free Agent’ token, meaning you can hold on to it until you can better decide which of the 4 roles you are gravitating towards, as well if any particular agent is drawing your eye.

So, with all that said, how does one proceed to unlock the remaining cast of agents in VALORANT?

How to Unlock Every Agent in VALORANT?

There are now 25 agents as of Patch 9.04 (introduction of Vyse), spread across the 4 established roles. There are 4 primary methods of unlocking new agents to your roster, and one additional conditional method.

Kingdom Credits

In Patch 7.0, Riot Games introduced their new progression system, and a new currency to go with it, Kingdom Credits. Kingdom credits can only be earned through playing game modes. It can not be purchased with real life currency.

One of the uses for Kingdom credits is the ability to unlock an agent for 8000 credits. Any agent can be selected for purchase and unlocking.

How to unlock agents with Kingdom Credits?

  • Ensure you have at least 8000 Kingdom Credits available.
  • 2 options from here:
    • Store > Agents > Click on the unowned agent you wish to unlock.
    • Agents > Click on unowned agent you wish to unlock.
  • Select Kingdom Credits as your method of redemption.

Valorant Points (VP)

VALORANT Points is a form of currency in VALORANT’s ecosystem that can only be obtained through purchase with real life currency. 1000 VP can be spent to unlock an agent (as an alternative method). Make sure to check the exchange rate for your specific country before purchasing VP.

How to unlock agents with VP?

  • Ensure you have at least 8000 Kingdom Credits available.
  • 2 options from here:
    • Store > Agents > Click on the unowned agent you wish to unlock.
    • Agents > Click on unowned agent you wish to unlock.
  • Select VP as your method of redemption.

Xbox Game Pass

Back in 2022, Riot Games signed a partnership deal with Xbox Game Pass. One of the best bang for your buck by the way, the Xbox Game Pass offered incredible value and access to a massive library of games and in-game content.

One of the offerings for VALORANT players was the complete access to every single VALORANT agent instantaneously.

If perchance, you already are a subscriber to the Game Pass, then all you need to do is link your Riot and Game Pass accounts, and voila, full roster unlocked.

How to unlock agents with Xbox Game Pass?

  • Head to Xbox Social sign-in page.
  • Sign in with your Xbox profile and Riot Games account to link the 2 accounts.
  • Restart game if VALORANT was already running at the time of the linking.

Release Recruitment Event

The final method for unlocking VALORANT agents is through the ‘Recruitment Event’. For the first 28 days of an Agent’s release, they will not be purchasable with Kingdom Credits.

Instead, players will accrue XP through playing match-made game modes. Once the required XP has been acquired, the agent will automatically unlock for play.

This system ensures that players will not have to spend their earned Kingdom credits or money to unlock  a new agent, but instead utilize just game time to earn the new agent.

On the downside, if you’re already sold on the agent, there’s no way to purchase the agent immediately for free. You’ll have to either grind it out or shell out that credit card.

VALORANT Agents - Unlocking the Full Roster

Unlocking the full roster may have been a pipe dream for newer players, but to reap the benefits of it can be incredibly satisfying and rewarding. Flexibility in the hero shooter genre is crucial for growth.

By unlocking more and more agents, you’ll gain a wider understanding of each agent’s specific playstyles and strengths, as well as strengthen your own performance across the diverse map pool.
