G2 Overtakes T1 in Riot's Global Power Rankings

G2 Esports has overtaken T1 to move into fourth place in the Global Power Rankings (GPR), Riot Games' global League of Legends team ranking. In the September 20 update, the European champion sits on 1,475 points, just four ahead of T1, which dropped to fifth with 1,471.
The update came on the same day G2 beat Movistar KOI 3-0 in the grand final of the LEC's second split of 2026. The title brought the European season to a close and also confirmed G2 as the region's first seed for Worlds 2026.
Why G2 Surpassed T1 in Riot's GPR
The LEC title was G2’s final result before Riot’s latest ranking update, but the GPR does not award a fixed number of points for each win. Instead, Riot evaluates teams based on several factors, including recent performance, match context, in-game execution, opponent strength, and the relative strength of each region.
G2 entered the update on the back of a 3-0 win over Movistar KOI in the LEC grand final. The result gave them the European title without dropping a game in the series, while Riot’s methodology also gives greater weight to more recent matches.
T1, meanwhile, had ended its domestic season a week earlier. On September 12, the team lost 3-1 to Hanwha Life Esports in the LCK lower-bracket final, finishing the season in third place.
The comparison between the two teams also extends beyond their domestic results. G2 and T1 last met at MSI 2026 on July 8, when the European side won 3-1 in the lower bracket. The result eliminated T1 from the tournament and marked G2’s first best-of-five series win over them since 2019.

Different Seeds, Same Starting Point at Worlds
With the LEC title, G2 heads to Worlds as Europe's first seed. T1, after finishing third in the LCK, arrives as South Korea's third seed. Even so, neither team will have to compete in the Play-In.
Worlds 2026 will have four teams competing in the Play-In for the final remaining spot, while 15 teams will qualify directly for the Swiss Stage. However, the format allows both teams to be placed in the same group and meet again on the international stage.
