Coming into the Blast Premier World finals, Both G2 and Liquid last had major success a long time ago. G2 Esports hasn't won a trophy in 1092 days, and it's the same with Liquid. Liquid won some Online events in 2020, but their major LAN win came in 2019. The tournament has been looking great for both teams, and this will be the first time a team apart from the top five will win a trophy in 2022. This will also be the first trophy for m0NESY and Osee.

G2 had an incredible journey defeating Outsiders, Vitality, and Faze Clan to reach the finals. Team Liquid was no joke, as they defeated Natus Vincere, OG, and Outsiders.

Blast Premier World Finals Map Veto:

The map veto started with G2 Esports banning Overpass, where Team Liquid is unbeaten in the event. Liquid came in to ban Nuke, where G2 Esports has been unbeaten in the event. G2 Esports picked Inferno; Team Liquid picked Mirage. G2 banned Ancient. Liquid banned Vertigo. Finally, Anubis was left as the decider.

Map 1 - Inferno:

G2 has been good on Inferno this event and defeated many strong teams on the map. Inferno is their comfort pick, and they start the map with a bang. With a shaky start, G2 went on to string together seven rounds in a row and eventually closed the first half 11-4. Throughout the map, G2 looked utterly lost. In the second half, G2 extended the 11-4 lead to 14-4. Liquid answered with three rounds, but they fell through and lost maps 16-7.

Map 2 - Mirage:

Mirage started with a back-and-forth. G2 started strong, but Liquid answered back with three. G2 completely shut down the Liquid attack to get a 9-3 lead. Liquid finally found answers to the G2 defense and scraped the last three rounds to close the half 6-9. G2 extended the three-round lead to a five-round lead. But Liquid started clawing back to equalize the score. G2 recomposed themselves and made a strong run to win the second and the Blast Premier World Finals. This is the first LAN tier 1 trophy for Hunter m0NESY and HooXi.

G2 Esports end the year with a long deserved trophy. Liquid had a fantastic run and they will come back stronger next year.
