Project K is here, and Riot Games have finally unveiled the name for the project – Riftbound: League of Legends Trading Card Game. Set to release in 2025, their latest IP is inspired by the world of Runeterra and the champions from their popular MOBA, League of Legends.

The TCG is reportedly designed to include both 1v1 and multiplayer formats (2v2 and free-for-all) and will launch later this year with the first set – Origins.

Viktor, Jinx and Lee Sin to Kick Off Set 1

Class fan-favorite champions Viktor, Jinx, and Lee Sin is reportedly set to kick off Set 1, with pre-constructed champion decks. Set 1 is also reportedly said to include a mix of starter sets and booster packs for a total of over 300 cards.  A separate boxed set – Proving Ground – will also be released on launch with starter decks for Lux, Annie, Master Yi, and Garen. Furthermore, 14-card booster packs will be available to supplement your deck building foray.

Available online and in physical shops on launch, Riot has partnered with UVS Games – an industry veteran in the tabletop games space – to ensure a smooth rollout and distribution on launch. According to the announcement video, Riftbound will be made available later this year for demo and play at upcoming Riot and tabletop events, so keep a look out!

The Newest TCG: What do we know so far?

According to the latest card design reveals, no cost seem to be assigned to the card themselves, leading me to believe an alternative resource method will be in play to put down cards. Each card also appear to have 2 distinct colors and icons, distinguishing the cards based on assumed color identity most likely.

We also have our first look at Spell cards which appear to have immediate effects such as Jinx’s Super Mega Death Rocket and deployable Unit cards such as the Deadbloom Predator. According to one report, the card types will be as follows: Units, legends, Champions, Spells, Gear, Runes, and Battlegrounds.

When will Riftbound Launch?

Riftbound is set to launch in China in the Summer of 2025. In English-speaking countries, the release date has been set for October 2025, so perhaps plan for a trip to your local game store to get your hands on Set 1 on release.

The official announcement for Riftbound Set 1: Origins has excited fans of Riot Games’ catalogue and TCG enjoyers alike. With a seemingly unique and exciting fresh take on the TCG genre, I for one can’t wait to get my hands on it and give it a play. Stay tuned for more updates as we get more information closer to launch.
