Faker became the first player to win 100 games at Worlds following T1's victory over G2. With the milestone win, Faker and T1 have now qualified for the Quarterfinals of Worlds 2024, where Faker will have the chance to extend his record even further.

Historic win, historic rival

It seems fitting that Faker's historic win, which sees his win record at Worlds enter into the realm of the triple digits, came against none other than G2 Esports.

It's worth remembering that G2 and Caps stood in the way of Faker's fourth Worlds trophy back in 2019. Faker and T1, then known as SK Telecom T1, lost to a fearless G2 team in the Semifinals of Worlds 2019 in what would be a big win for all of Europe. With Faker exiting Worlds 2019 at the hands of an unlikely opponent, a lasting rivalry would be born.

Now, at Worlds 2024, the story of that rivalry continues to be written.

Reaching 100 in style

Meeting G2 for a chance to qualify for the Quarterfinals of Worlds 2024, Faker was not going to let Caps stand in his way again.

T1 started the series by grabbing a fairly straightforward win in the first game thanks to a very clean showing from Faker on Ahri. That mattered looked as good as sealed when T1 once again launched into a sizeable early lead in the second game. This time, however, G2 was not to go down quite so easily.

After pulling off several crucial team fight wins, G2 had T1's base in shambles as they took down every single inhibitor and looked poised to even out the series. That is, until Oner stole Baron from G2 in heroic fashion.

In the end, however, T1's fighting spirit shone through as it has done so many times in the past (100, to be exact), as the South Korean squad managed to outperform G2 in the crucial moments of the game to take the series, thus moving on in the tournament.

The Unkillable Demon King

Across his 11 year career, Faker has attended Worlds a total of 9 times. Of those 9 appearances, Faker ended up lifting the Worlds trophy an incredible four times.

Now, Faker's 100 wins at Worlds marks yet another incredible milestone, and one that is hard to imagine any player could match, ever.

With Faker moving on to the Quarterfinals of Worlds 2024, it will be exciting to see just how far the greatest League of Legends player of all time can push his record this time around.
