With two new in-game concepts, the newly released patch shook the entire Dota 2 community. Moreover, the patch update came in the middle of the ongoing Dreamleague Season 23, challenging some teams to rethink their in-game strategies for the tournament.

Despite this challenge, some teams were un-wavered in their in-game performance at DreamLeague Season 23. Among them is Gaimin Gladiators.

They haven't dropped a single series during the group stages of DreamLeague Season 23, and in their playoffs debut, the team took a clean sweep against Tundra Esports.

Following their victory, the team's in-game safelaner, Anton "dyrachyo" Shkredov, explained how they work on their strategies for this new patch.

The Game

While most games went around an hour mark in the last patch, matches in the new update were not as lengthy. In the Gaimin Gladiators against Tundra Esports series, each game lasted around half an hour.

The series was the first official match played on the new patch. Despite this, Gaimin dominated their opponents in both games. They even picked a peculiar hero for their safelaner in the second game. After the series, Dyrachyo explained the thinking process behind their drafts for the new patch.

There are two types of Dota 2 players whenever there is a patch update - those who spend hours reading even the minute details about the patch and those who straight up just went in blind for a pub. Dyrachyo reveals what kind of player he was. The player admitted that he did not read all the information about the patch update. He only read some as his sleep was more important.

" I played two pubs at the morning. I wake up at 8, and the other guys wake up at 6 and 7, and they are starting into the patch; I wake up and start playing things; I read some of the things, but I have to sleep more than others."

Dyrachyo: "We just had to pull some hero, and it's Tiny"

It's been quite some time since Tiny was a viable safelaner. However, due to the recent gameplay changes and the introduction of Innate abilities, we could see the rock giant returning to the safelane soon. In his interview, the player explained why he chose the particular hero.

"He's hard to say. We just pull out it randomly because my Weaver is not good in this game. So, we just had to pull some hero, and it's Tiny. I didn't play a single game on it, and it works out pretty well in this game. So we will see in the future."

Dyrachyo: "We draft heroes we think are the best right now."

Teams often get nervous when Valve drops a patch update in the middle of a tournament.  Most times, these updates require teams to try new drafts at the last minute. As a result, it can slow down their momentum. In the post-game interview, dyrachyo reveals how Gaimin Gladiators worked on the drafting issue.

" We just read the patch, and the things that are broken for us - we pick it. For example, Axe and LC first pick. We think this hero is good, but maybe something else is good; we still need some time to figure out what's good and what's not. We draft heroes that we think are the best right now."

Dyrachyo: "We don't feel any pressure."

With their victory against Tundra Esports, Gaimin Gladiators secured a top-three finish at DreamLeague Season 23. It is the first time since ESL One Kuala Lumpur that GG has secured a top-three finish. Dyracho reveals what Gaimin Gladiators experienced before going into their first match in this new patch.

" I don't feel like we feel any pressure. For example, you remember Kuala Lumpur? There's a random patch came out and we don't know what to do. Nobody knows about this patch and it just randomly came out. At this moment, we can feel pressured, but when you know exactly when the patch is gonna be, you are kinda ready. You know what you gonna do and everyone knows about the patch. So, no pressure."

Winning the series against Tundra Esports, Gaimin Gladiators have a free day before their next match. Their upcoming series is up against Team Falcons.
