Cloud9 part ways with Wippie following a disappointing Kickoff

In a surprising yet not so surprising move, Cloud9 Valorant has decided to part ways with Maxim “Wippie” Shepelev.

The move follows the disappointing conclusion to their VCT Americas Kickoff run where Cloud9 failed to even qualify for the Play-ins.

Wippie joined C9 along with the G2 teammates Oxy and Coach Immi. The move marked the reunion of the 2021 V1 squad with Immi, Vanity and Wippie.

While the expectations from Cloud9 were low, they were still a top tier team and were created to secure multiple international events, or atleast stay in contention for them.

The moderate success enjoyed by the team during the off-season, all pointed in that direction. But, when the VCT Americas Kickoff came around, the team did not perform like a strong team.

In their opening game against MIBR, Cloud9 looked like the weaker team and only won off individual heroics from the likes of Vanity, Xeppaa and Oxy.

As expected, they were outclassed by NRG and took on MIBR again for the Play-ins spot. MIBR worked on their nerves from Game 1 and took down Cloud9 2-0, eliminating them from the competition.

To say the result was disappointing would be an understatement. While MIBR is definitely a strong team currently, Cloud9 was a much better team on paper and featured experienced individuals.

With the disheartening result, the changes were coming for sure. With Wippie gone, the team might have a work around for roles, there are currently no rumors for the potential fifth for Cloud9.
