Announced on his YouTube channel, Bjergsen retires after one split with 100 Thieves. 100 Thieves placed third in the regular season, but swiftly exited playoffs after losing back-to-back series against FlyQuest and Golden Guardians.

Bjergsen Retires

Søren "Bjergsen" Bjerg has been a staple to North American League of Legends since his first split on TSM in 2013. From there: championships, Bjergsen, and TSM all become synonymous with one another. Søren was an absolute star on TSM, picking up four MVP titles: the most of any single player in the LCS. Bjergsen brought home an astounding six titles with TSM, spanning from 2014-2020.

In a deeply sentimental video uploaded to Bjergsen's YouTube channel, Søren addresses the fans directly. Bjergsen points out how seemingly abrupt this announcement is, and how the move is "not about our result, it's not about the team - my teammates this split, and definitely not about 100 Thieves." Ultimately, Bjergsen shares he doesn't have the same passion as he once did for League, considering he has dedicated 11 years competing in the esport.

Similar to Zaqueri "Aphromoo" Black's sentiment in his retirement announcement, Bjerg wants to spend time with family, friends, and explore new hobbies and passions. Reflecting on his time as coach at TSM, Bjergsen explains it never felt like retirement in that role, despite community feedback saying otherwise. For Søren, this decision is the true first time he is stepping away from competing and League of Legends.

Bjergsen attributes his life to the game: "If it wasn't for League, I don't even know if I would be alive today... I was very suicidal back then... I pretty much owe everything I have and the person I am today to League of Legends and my career in it."

Søren leaves one of the greatest legacies behind of any player in the LCS. An accomplished career, a brief foray into coaching, and an individual level of influence that not many professional players can tout, Bjergsen's presence will be missed. Best of luck in his future endeavors!
