Dota 2 patch 7.37b introduced subtle yet impactful adjustments to heroes and items, focusing on fine-tuning and balance. These changes, though minor, can significantly influence the meta. Staying updated on top heroes is crucial. Each update offers new opportunities to climb the MMR ladder.

In this article, we’ll explore the top support heroes in Dota 2 patch 7.37b, focusing on those dominating the current meta. We’ll also cover key recent changes to these heroes, offering insights to help you boost your MMR.

Omniknight

Patch 7.37 revitalized Omniknight as a support, primarily due to the significant changes made to his ultimate, Guardian Angel.  Previously a target ability, it’s now a point ability with a 400 radius, making it more versatile in team fights. Additionally, Aghanim's Scepter restored its classic functionality, granting Omniknight a global cast range on Guardian Angel, reminiscent of how it used to be in the past.

One of Omniknight’s main challenges is his role as a melee support, which traditionally puts him at a disadvantage when trading against ranged supports. However, with the reduced mana cost and cooldown of Hammer of Purity, Omniknight can now engage more effectively in these trades by relying on his spells rather than just physical attacks.

The introduction of his Healing Hammer facet is a game-changer, allowing him to heal over time based on the damage dealt to enemies with his abilities. This facet has proven to be highly effective, boasting a 55% win rate, as it complements the support playstyle far better than the Omnipresent facet, which has a 51% win rate and focuses more on increasing his damage within Degen Aura.

Omniknight’s strength and playstyle lies in his tankiness and durability, making him a cornerstone in protecting his team’s core heroes. His abilities require smart positioning to really shine, with well-timed casts of Repel, Guardian Angel, or Purification capable of swinging the outcome of a fight—and possibly leading to a decisive victory.

When it comes to items, Omniknight's build can vary based on the game, but go-to choices include Boots of Mana, which you can upgrade to Guardian Greaves for even more healing. Another solid choice is Aghanim’s Shard as it enhances Purification's heal. Finally, Aghanim's Scepter is a strong late-game choice, providing Omniknight with global influence in crucial fights.

Warlock

Warlock is one of those support heroes who hasn't seen many changes in recent patches, aside from some minor tuning and ability rescaling. Despite this, Warlock remains impactful at every stage of the game, thanks to his signature ability, Fatal Bonds. This ability links enemies together, causing a percentage of the damage dealt to one target to be shared with the others, making it a powerful tool throughout the game.

In the laning stage, Warlock holds his own quite well. Fatal Bonds can deal significant damage when you link enemy heroes to a creep wave, allowing you to constantly harass them. It’s crucial to keep the small camp unblocked, as Warlock’s tendency to push the lane with Fatal Bonds makes pulling and stacking the small camp essential for maintaining lane equilibrium. Doing so not only keeps the lane in a safer position but also helps you gain extra experience and gold.

Warlock’s gameplay is straightforward: focus on staying out of reach, maximize your cast range, and carefully manage your positioning. When it comes to team fights, try to bind as many targets as possible with Fatal Bonds, ideally before dropping your ultimate, Chaotic Offering. If the situation allows, follow up with Upheaval to slow down the enemy team and create even more chaos. Warlock also shines in high-ground defense, where the Fatal Bonds and Upheaval combo can overwhelm opponents.

Among Warlock’s facets, Champion of Garroth is the most popular, holding a 54.5% win rate. This facet enhances Chaotic Offering, increasing Golems' damage based on Warlock’s health and mana regeneration, which scales well late game. Warlock's other facet, Black Grimoire, while less favored, still has a respectable 52% win rate. It grants a neutral item that gains stacks from kills and assists, which can be consumed for an experience boost. Though viable, Black Grimoire hasn’t gained as much popularity as Champion of Garroth.

Treant Protector

Treant Protector continues to shine in his support role, even without major recent updates, thanks to his exceptional ability to scout, disrupt, and set up plays. From the early game, he’s a force to be reckoned with in the lane, causing trouble for nearly any lineup. His incredibly high base attack damage at the start makes him a tough opponent, especially in trades with enemy supports. Leech Seed is another vital tool in his kit, providing healing for Treant and his allies while giving him the upper hand in these early skirmishes.

When it comes to facets, Sapling is the clear favorite, boasting a 53% win rate. This facet lets Treant ground target Leech Seed to plant a tree, making it especially effective during the laning stage. It’s ideal when approaching enemy creeps is too risky, letting Treant and his core heal safely under the tower. In contrast, Primeval Power, which adds +5 base attack damage per level, is less favored with a 49% win rate. It doesn’t mesh as well with Treant’s support playstyle, particularly in the mid to late game, where his role as a disabler and initiator takes precedence over raw damage output.

When it comes to gameplay, Aghanim’s Shard should be at the top of Treant Protector’s shopping list. This item is a total game-changer, giving him the ability to become permanently invisible as long as he’s near trees. With this stealth, Treant can roam the map unnoticed, making him an exceptional scout and an even better playmaker. It allows Treant to ambush enemies, set up surprise initiations, and control vision all while staying safely out of sight.

Another essential item is Blink Dagger, which synergizes perfectly with Treant's abilities, especially Overgrowth and Nature's Guise. With Blink Dagger, Treant becomes more elusive, making him harder to catch and improving his initiation and battlefield control.
