It’s been a few days since the major patch 7.37 was released, and the changes it introduced have already shifted the meta. Some popular heroes received significant updates, while others remained untouched.

In this article, we will focus on the biggest winners of patch 7.37 and explain the changes that propelled them above the rest.

Viper

Viper has always been a menace and one of the strongest laners and scaling heroes in the game. The addition of his new innate ability has made him even more fearsome, enhancing his scalability further.

His new ability, Predator, is a passive skill that allows his attacks to deal additional physical damage based on the target's missing health percentage, scaling higher with each level. Viper’s damage output has consistently been among the strongest throughout most stages of the game, particularly at level 25, where he becomes a Universal hero, experiencing one of the biggest power spikes in the game.

However, reaching level 25 is no easy task and can sometimes feel impossible. This is where the innate ability Predator fills the gap, allowing Viper to gradually gain power with each level and making the journey towards that spike more manageable and impactful.

Additionally, the recent changes and buffs to Breakability system in patch 7.37 have increased Viper's value significantly, thanks to his ultimate, Viper Strike, which breaks the enemy for 6 seconds. The results are evident as his win rate has risen from 46% to 51%.

Omniknight

Omniknight received a major rework on his ultimate, Guardian Angel, changing it from a unit-target ability to a point-target ability, resembling an older version of Guardian Angel that now surrounds units around the target. Additionally, his Aghanim’s Scepter now makes his ultimate global, affects buildings, and amplifies health regeneration and incoming healing by 100%.

This is a significant change, especially since his ultimate felt heavily nerfed after patch 7.35. Omniknight now has a stronger healing output as Purification triggers a second time after 3 seconds at 75% effectiveness, providing him and his allies with a stronger laning stage and overall durability, especially when combined with his ultimate.

These changes might bring Omniknight support back into the spotlight, as his toolkit offers everything to be one of the strongest supports in the mid to late game. Pairing him with a ranged carry or an offlaner can mitigate the issues in the laning stage. Since the patch was released, his win rate has increased from 48% to 51%, showcasing his growing potential.

Abaddon

Ever since Abaddon's Curse of Avernus was reworked, his gameplay has become much smoother and more impactful. The immediate application of a debuff has significantly improved his laning and overall presence in the game.

The biggest change revolves around his new innate ability, Withering Mist, a passive that applies a 5-second debuff reducing HP regeneration, healing, lifesteal, and spell lifesteal by 35% when enemies are below 40% HP.

Many team compositions and heroes rely on sustain through healing and strong health regeneration, whether through spells or items. This new innate ability provides a valuable tool to diminish that sustainability by a significant margin.

Abaddon's playstyle continues to be that of an unstoppable frontline machine, fearlessly running down enemies and tanking all initiations without issue. His win rate grew from 54% to 56%, reflecting the effectiveness of these changes.

Kunkka

Kunkka received one of the most significant changes, which lifted him from the sinking ship he was on. Despite the numerous nerfs in previous patches due to the controversial spell Torrent Storm, Kunkka finally received major buffs and a new innate ability while Torrent Storm was removed.

His new innate ability, Admiral’s Rum, makes him more sustainable. Whenever he drops below 65% health, Admiral’s Rum activates, granting him a 10% bonus movement speed and a 10-second window of delaying 20% of the incoming damage, which stacks additively with his ultimate, Ghostship.

With Torrent Storm removed, his other spells like Torrent and Tidebringer received slight buffs, bringing back a playstyle similar to older versions but with greater durability. This has led to a rapid surge in his win rate, which has grown from 44% to 50% over the past few days.

Nature's Prophet

When being global.. is not enough. (Credit: Valve)

A significant change to Nature's Prophet revolves around his ultimate and the blocking and reflecting system changes. Wrath of Nature now hits all visible targets on the map, making his global ultimate truly global.

The rework on blocking and reflection significantly increases his ultimate value, as abilities that bounce between multiple targets will only trigger spell block and reflection on the primary target.

Nature's Prophet's ability to push waves with his ultimate has grown substantially, increasing his farming potential by a significant margin. Nature's Prophet is a hero that relies heavily on map awareness, with a playstyle centered around split pushing, roaming, and seizing opportunities to gank enemy heroes and catch them off guard.

In just a few days since the patch release, his win rate has risen from 43% to 47%.
