With the latest shake up to the game, core players are searching for which heroes are viable and which to avoid. In this article, we are listing down the three best carry heroes to grind MMR in Dota 2 patch 7.40b.

With the general trend to cores being more survivable, these carry picks are hard to take down, while outputting strong damage and have a solid laning phase.

Abaddon

Abaddon starts our list of durable carry heroes with good laning presence. The Lord of Avernus is naught unkillable early on, while also protecting his support.

The current meta positions 5's often come with some form of disable. This works well with Abaddon. The Lord of Avernus needs help catching enemies, but once close, his slow makes it very hard for opponents to get away.

Should enemies try to fight back, an Aphotic shield puts an end to their futile efforts.  The hero's laning phase is critical. Abaddon's farming ability is limited and needs to go well early to snowball.

At around the 15-minute mark, Abaddon should have Radiance completed. This is the hero's biggest power spike in the game. With Radiance, you should aim to take down all tier-2 towers, and use that advantage to take Roshan, Tormentor, and Wisdom Shrine at 20 minutes.

The hero is at his strongest in the mid-game. Try to end the match before the 30 minute mark if possible. Should the game go late, Abaddon can buy Harpoon, Manta Style, and Bloodthorn to stay relevant damage wise.

With incredible durability, one of the biggest mid-game power spikes, and the ability to save others, there is no doubt that Abaddon is one of the best carry heroes to grind MMR in Dota 2 patch 7.40b.

Phantom Lancer

While Abaddon is hard to take down, Phantom Lancer is durable in a completely different way. The illusion master tricks his enemies, while slowly whittling them down.

Phantom Lancer has a good laning stage for a carry. Spirit Lance is a low cooldown nuke with a slow. It's not amazing level one but does scale well later on. Phantom Lancer is amazing at chasing down enemies or escaping thanks to his other basic skills.

With Diffusal Blade no longer working on illusions, new item builds have popped up. The optimum way to build the hero is to rush Aghanim's Scepter. Manta Style should also be purchased for more illusions and a dispel. Afterwards, player can opt for Bloodthorn for damage, or Heart to survive. Both items should be purchased but the order is flexible.

It takes some practice to master the hero, but Phantom Lancer is well worth it. He has an aggressive laning stage, a versatile item build, and overall one of the strongest late-game performances among all carry heroes in Dota 2 patch 7.40b.

Juggernaut

The most successful carry this patch is Juggernaut. With built in magic immunity, an ultimate that protects him while dishing out massive damage, and a group heal, Juggernaut is in an incredibly strong place right now.

Starting with his laning stage, Yurnero can chase down anyone with Blade Fury. It's rarely enough to bring down an enemy by itself, but with some support, Blade Fury turns the hero in a huge lane bully.

After winning the laning stage, a quick Battle Fury accelerates the hero's farm. Players are only limited by their imagination in their item build. Manta Style is always a good option. Aghanim's Scepter provides a mini-Omnislash that gives great flexibility. Butterfly comes with great stats. Late game Swift Blink is a good way to catch enemies or escape rough situations.

Juggernaut's Healing Ward is a huge part of the hero's success. Pubs are hard to coordinate and some objectives can be painful to take down (Roshan, Tormentor). But Juggernaut negates that issue and allows his team to take a fight at any time.

Yurnero is a strong hero at all stages of the game. He wins lanes with Blade Fury, takes objectives with Healing Ward, and destroys enemies with Omnislash. All these add up to make him the best carry hero to grind MMR in Dota 2 patch 7.40b.
