The famous Danil “Dendi” Ishutin once said that MMR is just a number. But when the top players in terms of MMR are also some of the best competitors in Dota 2’s professional tournaments, it’s hard not to argue against this position.

Recently, Nuengnara "23savage" Teeramahanon, one of the game’s most talented youngsters, has become the first player in the history of the game to breach the 13.000 MMR barrier.

Why 23savage’s Accomplishment Is Spectacular

Doing what 23savage did is extremely difficult to accomplish because in this esport, the matchmaking system seeks to create balanced matches.

So when you’re 13.000 MMR, several players on your team will be considerably weaker than those of the enemy team, to compensate for the fact that you’re much stronger than the guy who plays your role on that team.

Of course, some will argue that 23savage plays in Southeast Asia, which is a much weaker region than Europe or China. But it’s still impressive to see someone who’s barely 20 years old reaching this peak.

It remains to be seen who else can reach 13.000 MMR in 2023, but it’s unlikely that we’ll see more than a few players achieving this objective.

23savage’s Dota 2 Career

So far, 23savage has had a relatively modest career. His best result was the 7th – 8th place he got with T1 at The International 10. He also won ESL One Summer with the same team that year. But other than that, he’s never been more than a regional giant. Internationally, 23savage is yet to make a name for himself.

The main issue is that he has only played for SEA teams and never tried to join a top European organization. His talent is surely in high demand, but first he must have the willingness to travel to a different region. Because historically, SEA has never been one of the best.

We know that he can speak English fluently because he’s offered several interviews and even created a Dota 2 tutorial for Gamerzclass. But he probably doesn’t feel ready to leave his friends and family behind. Playing close to home is much more comfortable than playing thousands of miles away from everything you are familiar with.
