Among these characters is Yoru, an enigmatic and elusive duelist who has taken the Valorant community by storm. Yoru: Background and Lore

Kiritani Ryo, codename: Yoru, is a radiant hailing from Tokyo, Japan. His primary motivation currently is a dedication to uncovering his past. His search has brought him into multiple contacts with Kingdom. One of his first encounters had him break into a facility where he stole a samurai armor mask that allowed him to peer into another dimension. 

Later, he was approached by the VALORANT Protocol and inducted as their newest member, joining just in time to stop a spike detonation on Omega Earth. On one of his other visits to a Kingdom facility, he found a rift that allowed him to travel through time with help from the mask. Within the rift, he heard a woman's voice calling out to him, one that he thought he recognized. But before he could answer back, the rift closed.

Now, Yoru continues his research while continuing to serve in the VALORANT Protocol, waiting for the time when the Protocol's leadership will finally see the value of aiding him on his quest.

Yoru: Abilities Breakdown

Yoru's abilities are designed to disorient and outplay opponents, making him a formidable force when wielded by a skilled player. Let's break down his skills:

Fakeout

Fakeout equips Yoru with an echo. He can choose to immediately cast a clone in the likeness of Yoru that travels forward. Alternatively, he can place the echo on the ground that can be activated at a later time to cast the clone. The clone travels forward until it expires, reaches a flat surface or is shot. If the clone takes any instance of damage, the clone flicks towards the damage source and detonates as a flash.

Fakeout is Yoru's primary scouting and misdirection tool. It can be used to trigger sentinel utility, draw crosshairs from a corner, activated on a delay to send false information on sound cues, or psychological tricks where Yoru pretends to be his Fakeout. 

Blindside

Blindside is one of the most best flashes in the game and one of Yoru's most exciting abilities. This is due to its versatility in a wide array of scenarios. At its base, Blindside is a throwable flash that bounces once on a surface and then pops to blind everything in the area. It has an incredibly long range and no limitation on the travel time pre-bounce. However, post-bounce is static, making it very consistent to predict and use. 

It can be thrown on the ground to pop flash around a corner, tossed long-range for support, bounced against a wall for a quick peek. The options are essentially limited only to a Yoru's imagination.

Gatecrash (Signature)

Gatecrash is Yoru's entry and escape tool. Equip a portal. Yoru then has two options: place the portal where he is or cast it to run forwards, similar to his Fakeout. Gatecrash can be heard if close enough. It can also be destroyed with sufficient damage. 

For a duration from cast, the Gatecrash will exist on the map unless destroyed and at any time during that duration, Yoru can choose to either teleport to the location of the Gatecrash or consume the portal to create a simulated sound of teleporting. 

Dimensional Drift (Ultimate)

Yoru enters the alternate dimension for a short duration. During this period, he can see around himself, but cannot interact with anything (guns, switches). However, he can body-block. While Dimensional Drift is active, Yoru is invisible (unless spotted from a short distance) and invulnerable. He cannot pass through walls or any structure that he normally wouldn't be able pass. 

Yoru can re-activate Dimensional Drift to end it early. Exiting Dimensional Drift plays a loud audio cue and is typically Yoru's window of vulnerability.

Dimensional Drift is a one of the most potent ultimates in the game. Besides essentially being an indestructible drone, Dimensional Drift pairs well with a number of ultimates. Popular ones include Yoru-Sova and Yoru-Fade. 

• Yoru finds a target and body-blocks their escape, making them a prime target for Sova's Hunter's Fury.
• Yoru finds a target and Fade unleashes Nightfall, rendering enemies deaf. Yoru is able to exit Dimensional Drift without alerting enemies.

Playing Yoru Effectively

To harness Yoru's potential fully, players need to adopt a strategic mindset and practice using his abilities effectively. Here are some tips and strategies for playing Yoru efficiently:

1. Decoy Distraction - Yoru's Fakeout ability can be used to create diversions and confuse enemies. Mimicking footsteps near one site while your team pushes the other can force opponents into making hasty decisions.
2. Flash Plays - Blindside is an excellent tool for aggressive pushes or retakes. Bouncing it off walls or deploying it from unexpected angles can catch opponents off guard.
3. Gatecrash Intel - Use Gatecrash to scout ahead or gain information on enemy positions. Placing the rift at choke points or near potential hotspots can provide valuable insight into enemy movements.
4. Ultimate Ambush - Yoru's Dimensional Drift is a game-changer in clutch situations. Pop your ultimate to become invulnerable and reposition quickly for a surprise flank or escape.
