With Stage 3 of the BLAST.tv Austin Major Swiss Stage now behind us, the field has been narrowed to just eight teams - each one vying for the prestigious title in the year’s first CS2 Major. Among the quarterfinal matchups, none are more anticipated than the clash between a seemingly invincible Team Vitality and a shaky, but dangerous Natus Vincere. It’s a rematch steeped in history, but with a present narrative that leans heavily in one direction.

Team Vitality: An Unstoppable Force

Let’s start with the juggernaut. Team Vitality have spent 2025 demolishing everyone in their path. Since the blockbuster signing of Robin "ropz" Kool from FaZe Clan earlier this year, the French-led squad has looked downright untouchable. They opened the year with an incredible 30-0 win streak across multiple events, steamrolling every team in sight. Though that streak was finally broken in a shocking Stage 3 loss to Legacy, it served less as a setback and more like a wake-up call.

In true Vitality fashion, they bounced back instantly, obliterating Nemiga, 3DMAX, and Virtus.pro with clinical precision to lock in their playoff spot. While Mathieu "ZywOo" Herbaut and ropz have taken most of the spotlight with monstrous performances, this isn’t the one-man carry team it used to be. Whether it’s apEX’s leadership, flameZ’s entries, or mezii anchoring down bombsites, Vitality is the complete package. Their synergy, firepower, and resilience make them terrifying opponents on any day, even on their “off” ones.

Natus Vincere: A Glimmer of the Past

Standing in their way is Natus Vincere, the inaugural CS2 Major champions. However, the NaVi of today is not quite the same beast that lifted the trophy in 2024. Despite entering the playoffs with a 3-1 record, cracks in their armor have been evident throughout the tournament. Most notably, a comprehensive 0-2 loss to Team Spirit exposed just how inconsistent this NaVi side can be when their stars don’t align.

That said, their resurgence has been fueled largely by the explosive form of Justinas “jL” Lekavicius. The Lithuanian rifler has been turning heads again with performances reminiscent of NaVi’s 2024 Major run. But therein lies the problem: too much rides on jL’s shoulders. When he’s firing, NaVi can look world-class. When he’s not, the team struggles to even find solid footing, as evidenced by their loss against Spirit.

This kind of dependency could spell disaster against a team like Vitality, who can punish any and all inconsistencies.

Head-to-Head: Cologne Flashbacks

The last time these two met on the big stage was at IEM Cologne 2024, where Vitality took down NaVi 3-1 in the grand finals without ropz in the lineup. Now, with the Estonian superstar in peak form and seamlessly integrated into the squad, the mountain for NaVi to climb has only gotten steeper.

Map Veto Breakdown:

Map vetoes for this matchup offer a few insights into how the series might play out. Vitality’s permaban of Ancient and NaVi’s permaban of Dust2 take two maps out of the equation immediately. From there, the dynamics get more interesting.

NaVi are likely to lock in Mirage, a map they’ve shown comfort on, even though it’s a secondary ban for Vitality. This might work in favor of the Ukrainian squad, as Vitality’s win rate is the worst on that map.

Vitality, on the other hand, will almost certainly pick Inferno, a battleground they’ve dominated all year long. Their well-oiled executes, flawless utility usage, and individual brilliance shine brightest on this map.

Expect both teams to avoid Anubis, while Nuke might also be banned by NaVi to avoid the unpredictability. That would leave us with Train as the decider - a classic map that both teams are happy to play on. Should it come down to Train, we’re in for a fireworks show.

Final Verdict:

There’s no denying NaVi’s potential. On their day, with jL popping off and Aleksib calling a flawless game, they’re capable of greatness. But this version of Vitality doesn’t just punish mistakes, it suffocates teams. Even on days when ZywOo isn’t hitting highlight reels, someone else steps up. And more often than not, everyone does.

This is a David vs. Goliath matchup, but this time, Goliath has better aim, better teamwork, and far more momentum.

Prediction: Vitality 2-0 NaVi.

While NaVi will fight hard and may even push Vitality on Mirage or Train, it’s difficult to see a scenario where they can consistently match Vitality across the series. Expect Vitality to punch their ticket to the semifinals with clinical efficiency.
