In the game Valorant, the enigmatic Sabine is speculated to be none other than the agent known as Viper, based on intriguing hints within the game. When two Vipers are in a match, a triggered voiceline ominously declares, "I am coming for you Sabine." Additionally, Omen possesses a line urging, "Don't die here Sabine. I need your secrets," when allied with Viper, as per the datamined voiceline code "Play_VO_Omen_MatchStartAlly_Viper_0."

Similar to other agents in Valorant, Viper's impact varies based on the map and her team's offensive or defensive position. Fortunately, her skillset proves adaptable across most of the game's six maps, with smaller, enclosed areas offering the greatest advantage. Maps like Ascent, Bind, and Split, featuring multiple bomb sites, amplify Viper's effectiveness with her Toxic Screen, impairing enemy visibility and granting her team opportunities to secure a site.

Backstory and Origins

Sabine Callas originates from the United States, with potential ties to Seattle. Possessing a doctorate and esteemed accolades like the R. Francis Prize and the Denton Outstanding Innovation Award, her professional journey includes pivotal roles within Kingdom Corporation. Eventually, she ascended to become the corporation's inaugural Chief Scientific Officer on the board of advisors, wielding significant influence over their endeavors in Rabat, Morocco. However, during her tenure there, an undisclosed "incident" occurred, altering everything for Callas. The aftermath of this event led to profound losses and prompted her to withdraw from society, dedicating herself singularly to seeking retribution.

Following the upheaval of First Light, the clandestine VALORANT Protocol emerged, with Callas counted among its founders. Assuming the mantle of "Viper," she became the organization's second agent and stood as second-in-command to Brimstone. Renowned as one of the most active and experienced members, Viper plays a pivotal role in recruiting new agents and actively participates in numerous missions undertaken by the Protocol.

Sabine, also known as the American Chemist in her biography, has pioneered various toxic devices, showcasing a penchant for inflicting suffering upon her adversaries. An intriguing detail from the last battle pass is an unlockable banner card displaying Viper and Reyna in a face-off, with an image depicting an adult Viper holding hands with a young girl. As Reyna occupies the top of the card, it's presumed the child holds significant importance to her. Did Viper alter Reyna's molecular structure, granting her powers? Or could the girl be Reyna's daughter? Regardless, evident animosity exists between the two agents.

Following the cataclysmic event known as First Light in 2039, which granted people strange abilities, Viper and Brimstone founded the Valorant Protocol. This initiative recruited individuals with unique powers to combat Radiants who misused their abilities. Despite being a co-founder, Viper takes a secondary role compared to Sage's leadership alongside Brimstone.

Skills and Abilities

Viper's arsenal revolves around her toxic abilities—Snake Bite, Poison Cloud, Toxic Screen, and her ultimate, Viper's Pit. Each ability incorporates lethal toxins, making her a formidable opponent or a potent ally. Snake Bite, a vial of poison creating a corrosive pool, effectively prevents spike defusal. Poison Cloud and Toxic Screen obscure enemy vision, albeit with limited sustainability due to Viper's toxin levels. Viper's Pit, her ultimate, generates a sprawling toxic cloud reducing enemies' health and visibility, offering sustained control within its boundaries.

While Viper's abilities contribute to both offense and defense, she shines most brightly on the attack. Her capacity to blind foes with her poison wall or create a hazardous zone on the spike using Snake Bite proves invaluable. Moreover, her ultimate, Viper's Pit, virtually guarantees success on offense—within the gas cloud, allies remain unharmed while enemies rapidly dwindle to minimal health. Additionally, the cloud highlights enemies, making them easy targets for Viper and her team.

Theories on Sabine's Past and Future

Hints within Valorant suggest that Sabine might have had a different role in the past—Omen's dialogue hints at her healing abilities before her transformation into Viper. This raises questions about her transition from healer to a toxic-focused identity, leaving the circumstances behind this shift shrouded in mystery.

Upon her release, Viper struggled to gain traction among Valorant agents, receiving criticism for her underwhelming abilities. A subsequent patch significantly improved her efficacy, only to be curtailed later by a subsequent patch that reduced her toxin Decay damage, reshaping her standing among agents once again.

Adding to the mystery, Sage refers to Viper as "Delilah" in one of her lines, sparking theories that Viper’s full name could potentially be Dr. Delilah Sabine. While Riot Games hasn't officially confirmed this connection, dedicated Valorant lore enthusiasts strongly believe in the link between Sabine and Viper. Despite being one of the less frequently chosen agents, Viper maintains an air of mystery, with scant details about her background. There's hope among players that Riot Games will gradually reveal more about this elusive agent as they expand upon Valorant's storyline.
