pTundra Esports emerged victorious in their last match of the DreamLeague season 21 group stage, taking down Team Liquid, the highest-ranked team in the DPC.

Tundra's impressive victory was a sight to behold, and the team's new midlaner Topias "Topson" Taavitsainen played a big part in their success. In the first game of the series, Topson unveiled a never-before-seen trick with Dazzle.

Topson brought down a Tormentor with Dazzle

Tormentor
Tormentors are a key objective added in patch 7.33.

Tormentors in Dota 2 are incredibly tough neutral creeps that spawn at the 20-minute mark. The powerful unit provides an Aghanim Shard upgrade to one of the two lowest networth heroes on a team when brought down.

It usually takes a team of at least three people to bring down a Tormentor, yet Topson was able to do so with just Dazzle, a hero most commonly picked as a support.

One of the reasons killing a Tormentor requires multiple heroes is because Tormentors reflect 90% of damage received, back to enemy heroes in a vicinity.

The more heroes a team brings, the less damage each hero takes.

Tormentors do not damage couriers,  but they still count as units "taking" damage.

By bringing three couriers with him to kill the Tormentor, Topson was able to solo the Tormentor while taking minimal damage. Multiple uses of Shadow Wave were all he needed to bring down the powerful neutral creep.

Is this a viable strategy in pubs?

Watching a strategy in a pro match and then implementing it in a pub game is a good way for Dota 2 players to improve. But some tricks require significantly more effort than others.

To bring down the Tormentor with just Dazzle, Topson had two of his teammates bring their couriers along in order to increase the effectiveness of Shadow Wave and reduce the damage taken.

It's not easy to coordinate such a thing in a pub game, as teammates occasionally don't want to win the game, let alone help other players.

Dazzle is also not in the best place right now, with a relatively low win rate in higher MMR brackets. It takes a particularly skilled player to make the hero work in the mid-lane. Someone who has won at least one International, preferably two.

While it might not work in every pub game, Topson's creativity was a sight to behold. It will be interesting to see how far Tundra Esports can go in DreamLeague Season 21.
