Team Spirit just made a major roster shake-up that nobody saw coming. Boris "magixx" Vorobyev and Myroslav "zont1x" Plakhotia are back in the starting lineup, while Leonid "chopper" Vishnyakov and Ivan "zweih" Gogin have been moved to the bench.

This is a stunning reversal for an organization that won the Shanghai Major earlier this year with magixx, only to bench him months later.

The move comes after Spirit's disappointing performance at the StarLadder Budapest Major 2025, where things clearly weren't working with the current roster. Sometimes you just know when the chemistry isn't there anymore, and Spirit's management decided they'd seen enough.

The zweih Experiment Didn't Work Out

This one stings for zweih. The 17-year-old joined Team Spirit from Nemiga Gaming back in July of this year (2025), replacing the very same magixx who's now taking his spot back. He was supposed to be the next big thing, even getting a shoutout from donk as a potential top-20 player for 2025. But raw talent isn't always enough when you're playing at the highest level.

Spirit's head coach addressed the difficult decision in a statement, acknowledging zweih's potential while being honest about the reality of the situation. The young player gravitates toward different in-game roles than those Spirit needed, and he still needs time to develop the strength, in every sense, to compete with the absolute best. It wasn't a question of effort or dedication, just a matter of compatibility and timing.

Chopper Pays the Price after Poor Results

Chopper's benching might raise some eyebrows since he's been Spirit's in-game leader for what feels like forever. But when results fall off like they did, someone has to take responsibility, and heads will roll. The team's calling had become fairly predictable, with opponents like MOUZ and Falcons repeatedly punishing Spirit's straightforward T-side approaches. When your playbook becomes that readable, changes need to happen.

What makes this interesting is that Team Spirit isn't just bringing back magixx as a player, he's also going to be taking over as the team's new captain. That's a massive responsibility for someone who's primarily been known as a reliable rifler throughout his career. But Spirit's management clearly believes he has what it takes to lead this team back to championship form.

The Veterans Return with Something to Prove

Magixx's return feels like unfinished business. After spending nearly six years with Spirit and playing over a thousand maps at the highest level, getting benched must have hurt. He was part of every major triumph: IEM Katowice 2024, BLAST Premier Spring Final 2024, the Shanghai Major, and more. And now, he's got a chance to prove the team made a mistake letting him go.

Zont1x's comeback is equally compelling. He'd been dealing with personal issues and needed time away from competition. Spirit's coach mentioned that zont1x has rested and will return to his roles with renewed strength, which is exactly what this team needs right now: fresh energy and proven winners who know how to perform under pressure.

Spirit's updated roster will debut at the BLAST Bounty Winter 2026 Closed Qualifier, running from January 13-18. The question now isn't whether magixx and zont1x can still compete at the top level, it's whether this reunion can recapture the magic that made Team Spirit championship contenders in the first place. With donk and sh1ro still anchoring the lineup, the pieces are undeniably there. Now they just need to make them fit together again.

CS2 Major Revenue Share Changes Are Pushing Organizations Away from Counter-Strike

Valve’s new CS2 Major revenue share ties sticker income to VRS and final placement, removing capsule‑style payouts and concentrating money among top finishers. The result: higher volatility for clubs that relied on sticker cheques, early roster cuts like Gaimin Gladiators, and a narrower field of sustainable CS2 organizations unless the payout model changes.
