Team Liquid Had the Longest Day of Nonstop Dota 2 Ever

Team Liquid was forced to take the longer path to the Grand Final and ended up breaking a record during PGL Wallachia Season 7. Liquid had the longest nonstop competitive day in all of professional Dota 2 history.

The information was revealed by Ben “Noxville” Steenhuisen on his Twitter profile (@Noxville) after the tournament concluded. Even in defeat, Team Liquid is breaking records.

Team Liquid: Almost Eight Hours of Dota

Team Liquid's fatigue was noticeable during the PGL Wallachia Season 7 Grand Finals, and that was due to a rare conjunction of factors. It all started with their Lower Bracket Final against BetBoom Team.

This match alone was the second-longest best-of-three series in Dota 2 history. Liquid defeated BetBoom after playing a series that lasted an impressive 3 hours, 45 minutes, and 50 seconds.

Right after breaking an endurance record, Team Liquid hopped into a full best-of-five against Team Yandex, which lasted around four additional hours. The total amount of Dota played that day was measured at 7 hours, 55 minutes, and 15 seconds by Noxville.

It's Not Just a Game

Records like this remind us of how taxing it is to stay concentrated and perform at the highest level of Dota 2. Common knowledge suggests that the average sustained focus on a single task varies between 20 and 40 minutes.

If this is not peak performance for a Dota 2 team, I don't know what is.

Maintaining their focus for eight hours is almost superhuman when we consider that high-level cognitive performance is said to decline after 4–6 hours. Liquid played for nearly eight hours with few pauses between matches.

Closing Thoughts

Team Liquid has been on its way to a figurative rebirth after adding tOfu and Ace to the roster, and this has been an interesting and thrilling journey for the team and for fans as well.

Unfortunately for everyone, their recent state of flow was not achieved until after they failed to qualify for ESL One, which means they will have a lot of time off until the next PGL Wallachia in April.
