Microsoft announced during the Tokyo Game Show 2024 that StarCraft: Remastered and StarCraft II: Campaign Collection will be available on Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass starting November 5, 2024. This is a very important addition to the service, further enhancing its library of iconic games following Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard.

A RTS Classic on Game Pass

StarCraft, first released in 1998, has long been a cornerstone of the real-time strategy (RTS) genre, influencing not only game design but also esports culture. Along with its expansion, which debuted in 2010, the series continues to engage a passionate community of players. The game series was instrumental in the rise of professional gaming, particularly in South Korea, where it helped establish esports as a legitimate, international phenomenon.

Although the multiplayer modes of both games have been free-to-play for years, this new inclusion on Game Pass will make the single-player campaigns more accessible to a broader audience. This move serves to reignite interest in this universe for newcomers, while offering veterans the chance to relive some of the series’ most memorable moments without additional costs.

What’s coming to Game Pass?

On November 5, subscribers to PC Game Pass and Game Pass Ultimate will be able to access:

  • StarCraft: Remastered – The updated version of the original game and its expansion, Brood War, with enhanced graphics, remastered audio, and modern online features.
  • StarCraft II: Campaign Collection – This includes all three single-player campaigns (Wings of Liberty, Heart of the Swarm, and Legacy of the Void), offering hours of strategic gameplay set against a backdrop of intergalactic warfare.

A gateway to StarCraft’s Legacy

While StarCraft have remained relevant due to their free-to-play multiplayer modes, the addition of their campaigns to Game Pass is aimed at inviting a new generation of players to explore the deep lore, challenging strategy, and iconic gameplay of the franchise.

Fans can look forward to reliving epic space battles across the stars or diving into the universe for the first time this November. StarCraft remains a key player in gaming history—and potentially, its future.
