Shopify Rebellion are one of the best Dota 2 teams in North America, thanks in part to Evil Geniuses’ decision to exit the region and release its entire Dota 2 roster.

It’s well-known that the CEO of Shopify, Tobias Lutke, is fond of esports and used to be a passionate StarCraft player. When EG dropped their roster, it didn’t take long for him to sign the players for his own team, Shopify Rebellion.

Egor “Nightfall” Grigorenko had received a good offer from BetBoom Esports and chose to leave. But the other former EG members were all given contracts and a new adventure started for Tal “Fly-“ Aizik and his squad. Nobody knew at the time just how good they were going to be.

Shopify Rebellion’s NA Dominance

The North American region is known to be quite weak compared to the rest. There’s not much competition here and for a team like Shopify Rebellion, this basically means that every Major participation, as well as The International participation, is guaranteed.

Rebellion have a single worthy rival in the region: TSM. Both teams started Tour 1 of Dota Pro Circuit 2023 with five consecutive victories. This basically means that there’s nobody to stop them and that the winner of their direct confrontation will be the winner of the entire competition. The epic match is scheduled for January 28.

One indicator that Shopify Rebellion are much stronger than almost every other team in North America is the way in which they won their matches. They did not lose a single game, and in most cases they won in less than 30 minutes. In fact, 9 out of 10 games ended like that.

In Dota 2, winning below the 30-minute mark is a sign of a one-sided match. And if it ends in 20 or even 16, as it did against Wildcard Gaming, that’s not even a Dota 2 game anymore. Even Wild Rift matches last longer!
