The RLCS Spring Split Major is finally underway! Sixteen teams from across every region have met in Boston, Massachusetts for the last Rocket League Major before the World Championship. They’ll be competing for a slice of the $300,000 prize pool and enough RLCS points to land them a seed at Worlds. Day 1 resulted in a couple of surprise results but overall, no one can really say they’re shocked about the teams currently sitting in the top 4 spots.

Upper Bracket Quarterfinals Already Over

There was certainly a lot of action on day 1 of the RLCS Spring Split Major - the last Major of this year. Not only did round 1 for both the upper and lower brackets take place but we also already have 4 teams through to the UB semi finals.

While it won’t take a lot to convince anyone that Karmine Corps, Team Vitality, Team BDS and Moist Esports deserve their places in the semi finals, it is a little odd that none of them are representing North America. The EU and NA regions are overwhelmingly dominant in Rocket League and this Major has proved to be no different.

Moist Esports proved to be a particularly large thorn in NA’s side as they knocked down 2 top teams. Both FURIA Esports and OpTic Gaming fell to Moist with decisive 3 - 1 results a piece. It’s also not particularly surprising that Major winners Gen.G Mobil1 Racing fell to reigning World Champions Team BDS.

What’s Left to Come at the RLCS Spring Split Major?

There are still 3 full days of action left at the RLCS Spring Split Major. All eyes should now really be moving to the lower bracket, which still has 4 rounds to go before the team that makes it to the final will have their time to shine. While the EU has at least one guaranteed place in the Grand Finals already, there’s no guarantee that another region won’t come up on their flank and take the crown.

On day 2, fans can expect to see the first 8 teams be eliminated. It’s already the final stand for:

  • Elevate
  • Team Liquid
  • Gen.G Mobil1 Racing
  • KRU Esports
  • PWR
  • Ground Zero
  • FURIA
  • Ninjas in Pyjamas.

Only 4 of these teams will be able to make it through to the next stage. There, it’ll come down to matches against OpTic Gaming, Spacestation, Rule One and Complexity.

MENA’s Last Stand

Rule One is the only team not from the EU or NA region to make it this far. They’re already qualified for the lower bracket quarter finals. All other teams will need to play through another round before being confirmed. The MENA representatives smashed through KRU Esports with a brilliant 3 - 1 win. Unfortunately, they couldn’t ride the wave too long though. They were immediately knocked down to the lower bracket by Team BDS, who won 3 - 0. Perhaps it’s time for some MENA domination at the RLCS Spring Split Major!
