Heroic has just announced the benching of their Danish AWPer, Nico "nicoodoz" Tamjidi, after just five months with the team.

This decision marks a significant shift in the organization's roster strategy, as they aim to address recent performance issues and realign their lineup for success.

Stagnation in the Camp

nicoodoz's departure comes amidst a period of stagnation for Heroic. Despite a promising start to 2024, including a top-eight finish at IEM Katowice and qualification for the PGL Major Copenhagen, the team has struggled to maintain momentum.

Subsequent tournaments saw Heroic falter, with disappointing exits from the Major and ESL Pro League Season 19. Thus, indicating a need for change within the roster.

According to Robin Nymann, Heroic's Director of Esports, the decision to bench nicoodoz stems from a misalignment between his strengths on the server and the team's requirements. Nymann emphasized the need for a player dedicated to the AWP in a more traditional manner.

“It has become apparent to both Nico and the team that his strengths on the server are not aligned with the team’s needs”

nicoodoz's Transition

In response to his benching, nicoodoz expressed a desire to focus more on rifling while still retaining his AWPing capabilities. This shift reflects a broader trend in the professional Counter-Strike scene. Players often adapt their roles to meet evolving team needs and gameplay strategies.

“In this case it was my desire to focus more on the rifle while still AWPing. I’m really excited to explore the ‘move’ to rifling while I find a new home where I can pursue this more natural role officially.”

Past, Present and Future

Despite his departure from the starting lineup, Heroic acknowledged nicoodoz's contributions during his tenure. Highlights include victories over world-leading teams like Vitality and FaZe. As well as their impressive run at Katowice and qualification for the CS2 Major. All achievements in which nicoodoz played a pivotal role.

With nicoodoz's departure, HEROIC now seeks to fill the void with a player who can better meet the team's AWPing requirements. Rumors suggest that Abdul "degster" Gasanov from OG may join as the new AWPer, signaling a potential revitalization of Heroic's roster.

As Heroic undergoes this transitional phase, the organization remains committed to supporting nicoodoz in his future endeavors. Meanwhile, fans eagerly anticipate the unveiling of the team's new lineup and the prospects it holds for future tournaments.

CS2 Major Revenue Share Changes Are Pushing Organizations Away from Counter-Strike

Valve’s new CS2 Major revenue share ties sticker income to VRS and final placement, removing capsule‑style payouts and concentrating money among top finishers. The result: higher volatility for clubs that relied on sticker cheques, early roster cuts like Gaimin Gladiators, and a narrower field of sustainable CS2 organizations unless the payout model changes.
