Fizz is a mobile assassin in League of Legends known for his slippery movement, burst damage, and high kill pressure. He excels at punishing overextended enemies and quickly deleting squishy targets. This guide explains how Fizz works, when he’s strongest, and how to use his abilities effectively.

Who Is Fizz?

Fizz is an amphibious yordle from the waters near Bilgewater. Sailors fear him not because of his size, but because of the deadly beasts he can summon. In game, he is a melee magic damage champion who thrives in the mid lane.

Passive: Nimble Fighter

Fizz ignores unit collision and takes reduced damage from all sources. The reduction scales with his ability power, making him more durable in skirmishes. This passive makes it easier for Fizz to move through minions and stick to his target.

Q: Urchin Strike

Fizz dashes a fixed distance toward a targeted enemy. If the enemy is within range, he deals magic and physical damage and applies on-hit effects. The ability can also be used to escape by targeting minions.

Cooldown drops as you level up the skill. It also works well with Seastone Trident and Chum the Waters mid-dash.

W: Seastone Trident

Fizz's basic attacks deal magic damage over time. When activated, his next attack does bonus magic damage. If this empowered attack kills the target, the cooldown drops to one second and restores mana.

If the target survives, Fizz’s basic attacks deal bonus magic damage for a few seconds. The ability also resets his auto-attack timer, allowing for quicker trades.

E: Playful / Trickster

This is Fizz’s main defensive and mobility tool. He becomes untargetable for 0.75 seconds and can jump again shortly after, dealing area damage.

If he casts Trickster, he lands early, dealing damage in a smaller area but without slowing enemies. This makes E one of the best tools for dodging abilities and escaping danger.

R: Chum the Waters

Fizz throws a lure that calls a shark to attack after 2 seconds. The further the lure travels, the bigger and stronger the shark. It deals magic damage, knocks enemies back or up, and slows them. If the lure hits a champion in flight, it sticks to them and causes a knock-up instead of knockback.

Landing this ultimate often leads to a kill. It also reveals the area and the targeted enemy during its delay.

Early Game (0–15 Minutes)

Fizz is weak until level 3. Stay back, get experience, and avoid losing too much health. Once you unlock your three core abilities, you can look for trades.

His power spikes at level 6. Chum the Waters allows for strong all-ins. If you land it, follow up with E, W, Q, and ignite to secure the kill. Use the short cooldown of his ultimate to pressure the enemy repeatedly.

If the enemy plays safe, push the wave and roam. Fizz is strong at roaming and can punish overextended enemies in other lanes.

Mid Game (15–25 Minutes)

Fizz gets stronger after unlocking level 11. With a second point in his ultimate, he can one-shot many targets.

Focus on isolating squishy champions. Use the fog of war to find picks. If no team fights are happening, split push to force enemies to react. Avoid grouping unless you’re setting up an ambush.

During this phase, Fizz’s cooldowns are short enough to fight often. Use E wisely to dodge key skills or escape if a fight turns bad.

Late Game (25+ Minutes)

At level 16, Fizz can delete unprotected enemies in one combo. However, late-game fights are more structured. Enemies often build defensive items or stay grouped, which reduces Fizz’s effectiveness.

Wait in the side brush or behind terrain. Look for players who walk too far forward. Use Chum the Waters to start fights by removing key targets. If enemies build Guardian Angel or Hourglass, it will be harder to get clean kills.

Stick with your team, but position away from vision to surprise the enemy.

Strengths

Fizz excels at killing squishy champions. His kit allows him to dodge key abilities, escape bad fights, and chase down targets. Once ahead, he can carry fights by eliminating enemies before they react.

He also punishes bad positioning. Roaming, side-laning, and flanking all suit his style.

Weaknesses

Fizz is weak early. If he falls behind, his damage won’t be enough to secure kills. He also depends on Playful / Trickster to stay alive. If it’s on cooldown, he becomes very easy to kill.

Fizz struggles against crowd control and tanks with heavy resistances. Items like Zhonya’s Hourglass and Banshee’s Veil slow him down. If his abilities don’t kill, he has little room to recover.

How to Lane Against Fizz

  • Don’t go for long trades. He will win most due to Seastone Trident.

  • Keep the wave near your tower. This limits his all-in potential.

  • Roam with vision. Don’t chase him blindly; he can turn around and kill you.

  • Bait out his E before using skillshots. He’ll dodge anything if it’s still available.

How to Fight Fizz Later

  • Don’t walk alone if you’re squishy.

  • Avoid clumping if he lands Chum the Waters on you. The shark does area damage.

  • Save your key abilities until Fizz uses Playful / Trickster.

  • Build defensive items if you’re being targeted often.
