HEARTSTEEL is officially back. On Friday (Sept. 18), Riot Games released "Live My Life," the second single from the virtual League of Legends group and its first new song since "PARANOIA" in October 2023. The track arrived alongside an official music video and features Anderson .Paak, BAEKHYUN, Connor Price, and Nic D on vocals.
BAEKHYUN returns to the project as Ezreal, while Anderson .Paak takes on K'Sante, Connor Price voices Sett, and Nic D performs as Kayn. Aphelios and Yone round out HEARTSTEEL's fictional lineup as instrumentalist and songwriter, and producer, respectively.
"Live My Life" Centers on Self-Affirmation
The lyrics to "Live My Life" put self-affirmation at the center of HEARTSTEEL's new chapter. The song is about ignoring other people's attempts to control or tear you down and moving forward without needing their approval. It marks a shift in perspective from the insecurities that shaped the group's introduction in "PARANOIA." Read the full lyrics below:
You say that I'm wrong, that I'm gone, that I'm not enough
(You say that I'm wrong, that I'm gone, that I'm not enough)
But you just want me down, want me out, watch me call your bluff
(But you just want me down, want me out)I don't have to take it
I know who I am and it's that amazin'
I can see the sun and the clouds are breakin'
Oh II just want to live my life
If I do say so, say so myself
Just live my life
If you think that's wrong
That's why I don't want to be right
I'ma just let go
I'ma just let go and live my lifeI just want to make it known
I feel like gold
I'm tryna win
Let's get it, let's go
They throwin' rocks
They throwin' rocks
I'm tryna roll
I'ma just let go
I'ma just let go and live my life
I just want to live myWanted me to turn on myself, tried to take my mind
(Wanted me to turn on myself, tried to take my mind)
But now I'm in your house, on your couch, screamin' I'm aliveI don't have to take it
I know who I am and it's that amazin'
I can see the sun and the clouds are breakin'
Oh II just want to live my life
If I do say so, say so myself
Just live my life
If you think that's wrong
That's why I don't want to be right
I'ma just let go
I'ma just let go and live my lifeI just want to make it known
I feel like gold
I'm tryna win
Let's get it, let's go
They throwin' rocks
They throwin' rocks
I'm tryna roll
I'ma just let go
I'ma just let go and live my life
I just want to live my
(Break free)I just want to live my
The return comes almost three years after HEARTSTEEL's first release. "PARANOIA" debuted on October 23, 2023, with BAEKHYUN, tobi lou, ØZI, and Cal Scruby voicing Ezreal, K'Sante, Sett, and Kayn. According to Riot Games, the song has now surpassed 200 million streams across all platforms.
The reach of that debut also brought HEARTSTEEL to the stage at the Worlds 2023 Opening Ceremony in Seoul, South Korea. BAEKHYUN, tobi lou, ØZI, and Cal Scruby performed "PARANOIA" at the event, which also featured NewJeans performing "GODS."
The group had not released another song since then. "Live My Life" ends that gap and officially opens HEARTSTEEL's second chapter, now with three new artists among the project's four vocal performers.
