League of Legends is introducing a new event map for the ARAM gamemode, set to debut in LoL patch 14.22 on the 6th of November, 2024. The release of the event map is set to coincide with the release of the 2nd and final season of Arcane - set itself to release on the 9th of November - as well as the release of new LoL champion, Ambessa, on the 6th of November.

The “Bridge of Progress” map features a literal Piltover vs Zaun theme, everything from a graphical makeover of the fan-favorite gamemode’s map to the introduction of new mechanics for players to maneuver through as they battle it out.

The update was first hinted at in the latest dev blog Riot dropped back in September. The gamemode will remain until the 8th of January, 2025, giving players around 2 months to enjoy this event.

What is ARAM?

ARAM is a gamemode in the popular MOBA, League of Legends. The name itself offers a clue into the mechanics and rules of the gamemode, All Random, All Mid. A 5v5 setting between 2 teams, both teams will be offered from a randomized pool of LoL champions (from their own available champions) to select and battle it out on Howling Abyss, the traditional ARAM map.

Players are usually offered at least one reroll each, allowing players to select champions outside of their pool in this second round of rolls. Furthermore, champions currently in either the free champions rotation pool or the free champion pool specific to ARAM will also be entered into the potential pool for the draws.

The objective remains the same as on Summoner’s Rift, where the destruction of the enemy’s Nexus is the primary goal. The ARAM map is characterized by its iconic single, long lane on which the 2 teams battle.

All cooldowns and spawn timers are reduced in this gamemode, leading to a thrilling and oftentimes bloody clash for players looking to blow off some steam with a more relaxing game time.

First introduced as an official gamemode in 2012, it has not seen many reworks to the map itself. The last change came in March 2023, when the position of some bushes were moved for better maneuverability. The last significant change came January 2023, when the teleport gates that enabled players to quickly reenter the fray from spawn had its cooldown shortened by 50%.

What is the Bridge of Progress?

The Bridge of Progress is one of the in-show locations for the show Arcane, and acts both literally and figuratively as the bridge between the City of Progress, Piltover, and the Undercity of Zaun.

When the two cities go to war, it is on the Bridge of Progress where the Piltover forces make their stand. It is also where the opening scene of Arcane takes place, where Vi and Powder’s parents perished in their attempt to riot against Piltover’s oppression.

“Our team has always thought we could do more to bring the environments of Runeterra to the game. We haven’t yet given players the chance to play in Piltover or Zaun specifically… So, why not now at the dawn of Season 2?” - Eduardo Cortejoso, Modes Product Lead.

With all that, there could be no more fitting location for the Zaunite and Piltover forces to clash. Be ready then, to test your steel and your fingers on the 6th.

What is included with this update?

According to the trailer and reports, the “Bridge of Progress” update brings with it the following:

  • A different type of ‘Snowball’.
  • Bushes are removed. Replaced with Sewer Gas/Fog.
  • An additional sidelane, splitting the traditional lane into two parts that run concurrently.
  • New shopkeepers.
  • New announcer.
  • New Piltover and Zaun-themed buffs for when inhibitors are destroyed.
  • Nemesis Quests (more on that below)
