Syndra is a powerful mid-lane mage in League of Legends known for her high burst damage and strong control abilities. With precise positioning and timing, she can eliminate critical targets and dominate team fights. Understanding Syndra’s unique Splinter mechanic and ability interactions is essential to performing effectively at all stages of the game. This guide covers her key abilities, optimal strategies, strengths, weaknesses, and vital power spikes, helping you maximize your impact when playing Syndra.

Understanding Syndra's Abilities

Passive: Transcendent

Syndra gains Splinters of Wrath by hitting enemy champions, killing large minions, or leveling up abilities. These splinters boost each of her abilities at certain thresholds. At 120 Splinters, Syndra gains a 15% increase in ability power, significantly boosting her damage.

Q: Dark Sphere

Dark Sphere places a sphere on the ground after a brief delay, dealing area magic damage. After reaching 40 Splinters, Syndra can store two charges, allowing more frequent pokes and setups for combos.

W: Force of Will

Force of Will allows Syndra to grab a sphere, minion, or small monster, then throw it to deal damage and slow enemies. At 60 Splinters, it also deals bonus true damage, making it effective against tanky champions.

E: Scatter the Weak

Scatter the Weak pushes enemies back, stunning them if they collide with a sphere. After 80 Splinters, it gains a wider angle and slows enemies, making Syndra's crowd control more reliable.

R: Unleashed Power

Unleashed Power fires multiple spheres at a single target, dealing heavy burst damage. At 100 Splinters, it executes enemies below 15% health, becoming extremely lethal in fights.

Syndra's Strengths and Weaknesses

Strengths

  • Syndra excels in burst damage and can quickly remove enemy carries from fights.
  • Her combo of Scatter the Weak and Unleashed Power can disrupt and control entire teams when executed correctly.
  • Scatter the Weak also provides safety, letting Syndra keep distance and manage threats effectively during laning and team fights.

Weaknesses

  • Her main drawback is immobility, making Syndra vulnerable to champions with crowd control (CC).
  • If caught by CC, Syndra has limited escape options, leading to quick deaths.
  • Scatter the Weak has a long cooldown. If missed or misused, Syndra becomes an easy target for enemy junglers or roaming champions.

Game Strategy for Syndra

Early Game (0–15 minutes)

In the early game, Syndra should focus on harassing enemies with Dark Sphere to lower their health. Aim to get enemy champions low enough for a successful all-in.

At level 6, use the burst from Unleashed Power to dominate your lane. Push aggressively to gain turret plates and increase gold income.

Mid Game (15–25 minutes)

In mid-game, Syndra is powerful. Rotate around the map, clear minion waves quickly, and support your team during sieges and objective fights.

Look for picks with your abilities. Syndra's damage is strong enough to kill isolated targets quickly, helping your team secure objectives like dragons or Baron Nashor.

Late Game (25+ minutes)

Late-game Syndra must stay close to teammates. Avoid wandering alone to prevent getting caught out by enemy initiations.

Continuously look for opportunities to pick off isolated enemies or start fights with your stun combo. Focus on positioning carefully to avoid enemy CC and burst down enemy carries effectively.

Laning Against Syndra

To lane effectively against Syndra, match her wave clear power after she recalls for the first time. Keep minion waves balanced to prevent her from easily securing plates or roaming.

If Syndra misses her Scatter the Weak, use the long cooldown window to engage or trade aggressively. After level 6, avoid fights when many spheres are on the ground; Syndra’s ultimate does significantly more damage with more spheres available.

Counter Strategies Against Syndra

league-of-legends-syndra

When facing Syndra in team fights, avoid standing close together to limit her Scatter the Weak stun potential. Fight in open spaces, avoiding choke points or jungle corridors, as this makes her abilities easier to land.

Engage quickly to prevent Syndra from poking your team down before fights begin. Syndra relies heavily on initial poke damage to weaken her opponents before fully committing.

Syndra's Power Spikes

Early Game

Syndra's first major spike is level 6. With her ultimate available, she can quickly eliminate low-health enemies. Purchasing first item components gives Syndra mana sustain and damage to control lanes better.

At level 3, she gains access to all her primary abilities, enabling consistent harassment and strong lane presence.

Mid Game

Syndra becomes increasingly potent after completing her first major item, typically Luden’s Echo. Her burst potential at this stage can easily overwhelm squishy opponents.

With multiple points in Unleashed Power, Syndra can effectively burst down key targets during team fights and skirmishes.

Late Game

At level 16, Syndra's ultimate deals tremendous burst damage, capable of instantly removing key enemy champions from fights. With a full build, Syndra maintains constant threat pressure, forcing opponents to build magic resistance items specifically to survive.

Syndra's late-game effectiveness depends significantly on positioning and smart use of abilities. Always maintain awareness and avoid unnecessary risks to ensure your team can capitalize on her powerful burst damage.

Mastering Syndra

Effectively playing Syndra relies on consistently collecting Splinters, using abilities strategically, and careful positioning. Syndra players who manage these aspects well can dominate games, significantly impacting team outcomes.

Focus on controlling lanes early, grouping with your team during the mid-game, and executing clean, precise combos late in the game. Doing so ensures Syndra remains a threat at all game stages and can reliably lead teams to victory in League of Legends.
