For the first time in the history of the VCT, Fnatic won't be present at VALORANT Champions. One of the most iconic teams in VALORANT esports, Fnatic were eliminated from the VCT EMEA 2026 Stage 2 during the Play-In Stage in shocking fashion as Tier 2 teams continue to demonstrate they belong at this level.

Tier 2 Squads: The Bane of Fnatic

Coming into Stage 2, it is true that Fnatic looked like a shell of their former selves. And yet, no one could have predicted the nature of their downfall.

After a disappointing fifth-place finish in the Group Stage, Fnatic were forced to go through the Stage 2 Play-Ins if they wanted to reach the Playoffs for a shot at reaching Champs in Shanghai.

Their first match of the Play-In Stage delivered Fnatic their first shocker as the squad fell to Tier 2 side Enterprise Esports in three maps to start things off. Forced into the Lower Bracket, Fnatic took down GIANTX before lining up a do-or-die clash against yet another Tier 2 squad, Joblife.

Against the French org, Fnatic looked utterly out of sorts. Despite winning the series' opening pistol round, Fnatic would go on to lose six consecutive rounds immediately afterwards. From then on, Joblife simply never let off the gas, closing out not just the map but the series with a statement 2-0.

As painful as Fnatic's 1-4 map win-loss record against Tier 2 teams may be, though, the true disappointment lies in missing out on the chance to compete at VALORANT Champions Shanghai.

Fnatic's Free Fall

Fnatic is one of the best teams in the history of VALORANT esports; there's no denying that. And yet, their 2026 campaign has been one to forget.

After making it to three consecutive international Grand Finals to close out the 2025 season, Fnatic failed to qualify for a single international tournament in 2026. That is a swift and remarkable downfall, and one Fnatic fans may not be able to live down for some time.

For all of the team's rough form, hope always lingered that they might be able to turn things around before Champions Shanghai, though. Now that that door is closed, this marks the first time in the organization's history that Fnatic will not be present at VALORANT Champions.

For Fnatic, the VALORANT offseason will start much earlier than they're accustomed to. Now, it's all about making use of that extra time to make sure they come back in 2027 looking like titans once more.
