The Brazilian League of Legends scene has been thrown into mayhem prior to the start of the inaugural season of the new LTA South, with one team seemingly wanting out right off the bat.

According to a report from Brazilian esports journalist Showtana, Fluxo has begun negotiations to sell their slot in the LTA South to w7m, an organization that already tried to enter the CBLOL in 2024.

w7m look to try again

After making a name for themselves in other esports, w7m appears ready to enter professional League of Legends scene. The Brazilian organization already tried their luck by putting up a team to compete in the qualifiers for the CBLOL Academy in January of this year.

The team, however, failed to make it into the Brazilian Tier-2 scene. And, just like that, w7m disbanded their League of Legends team only weeks after its creation.

It appears that was not the end for w7m, though. Now, the organization will look to enter the scene once more, only this time through a bigger door. If reports of Fluxo selling their LTA South slot to w7m are true, then the organization could be walking right into the big stage, ready to compete against the very best of the region.

If both organizations come to an agreement, then the only thing left to do would be wait for Riot's approval to complete the move. That, however, could well end up being tricky.

A risky precedent for Riot Games

If all parties involved agree to a deal, then Riot Games should have little reason to deny the move, right? Well, not necessarily.

Fluxo having applied for, and secured, a spot in the LTA, Riot' entirely new reformatting of the League of Legends Tier-1 scene in the Americas, only to have the spot sold immediately afterwards, could set a problematic precedent for the industry.

Given the numerous intricacies that go behind selecting the teams that are to be the recipients of the small numbers of slots that make up a franchised league, it might not be a good look for Riot Games to grant a team a spot in the LTA only for said team to have the slot sold immediately afterwards for financial gain.

If that were to be the case, then any team could potentially take advantage of such a situation, which would cast serious doubts on Riot Games' decision making process when choosing the teams that make up the league.

Moreover, the two organization can have entirely different ideas on how they wish to operate moving forward, as well as differing goals and directions for the team. This could leave the team's roster at the mercy of the new organization, putting the careers and livelihood of players at risk overnight.

At the time, it still remains unclear exactly how Fluxo and w7m intend to move forward. The two organizations could opt for a merger, or w7m could well take over the entire project altogether if they complete the purchase. With many pieces still up in the air, only one thing is certain: Riot Games will want to tread lightly before granting any such transaction their seal of approval.
