Falcons Silence the Doubters and Break Vitality's Streak at IEM Rio 2026

Falcons Silence the Doubters and Break Vitality's Streak at IEM Rio 2026

Team Falcons just sent a message to the entire field at IEM Rio 2026. In the Group A Upper Bracket Final, they took down Team Vitality in a best-of-three, snapping the French squad's impressive match win streak and punching their ticket straight to the semifinals. Nobody saw it coming, specially after the rumors surrounding karrigan replacing kyxsan on Team Falcons.

Knocking Down the King

Vitality came into this match, like they have been doing for quite sometime, as the world's number one ranked team, riding a 10-match win streak, and oozing confidence. They had steamrolled their way through every opponent this season. Nothing new there.

But Falcons had other plans... They came out sharp, controlled, and hungry. By the time the series ended, it was clear this wasn't a fluke; it was a pretty clear statement.

The win adds another chapter to what is becoming a fascinating rivalry between these two sides. In nine all-time meetings, Vitality leads 6-3, but Falcons have now beaten them in three of their last four encounters, including a 2-1 win back at the 2026 BLAST Bounty Season 1 Semifinals in January.

Kyxsan Proves a Point

The timing could not be more charged with emotion. In the days leading up to IEM Rio, reports from French insider KRL, backed by multiple sources, emerged claiming that veteran IGL Finn "karrigan" Andersen looks set to replace Damjan "kyxsan" Stoilkovski after the event (ahead of the IEM Cologne Major 2026). The move would follow FaZe Clan's failure to qualify to the Major, leaving karrigan available for a new challenge. And Falcons, always willing to invest in top talent, reportedly wasted no time.

But kyxsan didn't seem affected today. In fact, he showed up. Against the best team in the world, and with his future in the organization hanging in the air, the IGL showed exactly why Falcons trusted him in the first place. His performance across the series was composed, competitive, and lethal. It is hard not to respect a player who responds to adversity this way.

Is It Finally Falcons' Turn?

Falcons now advance directly to the IEM Rio semifinals at the Farmasi Arena, set for Saturday. The crowd in Rio has been electric throughout the event, and Falcons will be looking to ride that energy deeper into the bracket. Meanwhile, Vitality drop to the lower bracket, where they will need to fight their way back if they want a shot at the $300,000 prize pool.

Whether kyxsan is making his final run with this squad or not, one thing is clear: he is not going out quietly. And right now, Falcons look like a team that could go all the way.
