The Valorant Champions curse is back again. This time the victim of the curse is obviously Evil Geniuses. The Valorant Champions winning squad has reportedly been allowed to explore their options or opt for pay cuts while staying in the organization. With this, all the three champions winning squads now have in some parts broken apart after winning the prestigious title.

After the rocky start to LOCK//IN and VCT Americas, Potter and EG were heavily criticized. The community clowned on Potter and co. when they decided to switch out BcJ for demon1. But with Demon1 on the roster, EG turned the tables on everyone. The team made a Cinderella run, securing playoffs, Masters Tokyo and Valorant Champions. At Masters Tokyo, they went toe to toe with Fnatic but could not close the games. Come Valorant Champions, Evil Geniuses dominated the competition and delivered the happy ending to their Cinderella story. The team became the Valorant Champions 2023 and displayed amazing Valorant.

With the team winning the valorant Champions, everyone expected the team to stick together. Especially with the fact that they look like one of the best team’s valorant has ever seen. Everyone expected EG to secure these players for the foreseeable future. Last Night, Max Katz reported the disheartening news. The organization has reportedly allowed the Champions winning squad to explore their options. If the players wish to stay they’d receive pay cuts. These players will be unrestricted F/A and can freely negotiate with other organizations.

Multiple EG players have expressed their dissatisfaction with the organization's decision.

Talking about the subject, FNS said:

“It’s unfortunate, but it makes sense to me…I had a feeling that they (the org) won’t be able to pay much money. Every organization does not have the money to break even at the end of next year”

The situation is unfortunate and extremely sad for the players. With Esports struggling to make ends meet, it makes sense why organizations would want to cut their costs and risk trialing a different team if it means saving a few bucks. The salaries were significantly higher than the league minimum and players and organizations will have to work out a way where both parties can make money. We’d have to just wait and watch how organizations and the players deal with the financial crisis.
