Earlier today, on March 10th, the Esports World Cup Foundation announced a multi-year partnership with Capcom. This collaboration integrates the Street Fighter esports ecosystem with the EWC.

The announcement follows the return of Street Fighter to the 2025 edition of the mega esports festival in Riyadh.

Street Fighter 6 and the Esports World Cup

In 2024, Street Fighter 6 became the first fighting game to join the Esports World Cup. What followed was a 32-player tournament featuring competitors from around the world, culminating in Zeng “Xiao Hai” Zhou Jun winning the title and a lion’s share of the $1M prizepool.

What Does the Multi-Year Partnership Entail?

With the three-year deal, the top of the Street Fighter esports ecosystem namely; Capcom Pro Tour and Street Fighter League, now also incorporate the EWC.

As part of this collaboration, the 48-player EWC Street Fighter tournament will feature direct qualifiers from CAPCOM CUP 11 and Street Fighter League World Championship. Additional slots will be awarded to the competitors of Capcom Pro Tour 2025 events namely Evo Japan, Evo Vegas, CPT Combo Breaker, Blink Respawn and CPT Ceo. The remaining slots will be filled through regional qualifiers and a last-chance qualifier scheduled for August 2025.

The slot distribution for the EWC 2025 Street Fighter 6 Finals is as follows:

  • 8 slots for top players from CAPCOM CUP 11.
  • 12 slots for top players from the Street Fighter League: World Championship.
  • 10 slots for winners of Capcom Pro Tour 2025 events.
  • 18 slots for regional qualifiers and last-chance qualifiers.

According to ESWF the collaboration underlines their “commitment to fostering the sustainable growth of esports as a global sport”

Commenting on their partnership with ESWF, Street Fighter 6 producer Shuhei Matsumoto stated:

Our partnership with the Esports World Cup fosters an even deeper engagement between our players, fans and audiences worldwide. And this is just the beginning—together with EWC, we will continue to grow and innovate, and inspire the next generation of players.

With the inclusion of Street fighter, The Esports World Cup now boasts 23 announced titles under their belt which also includes a traditional indoor sport in Chess. With just two more titles to be announced, the Esports World Cup is shaping up to be a major event in the 2025 esports calendar.
