VALORANT’s newest map, Corrode, is still in its early days, but the meta is quickly taking shape. While ranked data points to popular picks like Reyna and Clove, higher-level compositions are already gravitating toward agents that can control mid, pressure both spike sites, and thrive in close-quarters combat.

Based on competitive pick and win rate data, plus a breakdown of agent utility, here’s an analytical look at what team comp is emerging as the strongest on Corrode.

Note: All data and statistics for this article was taken from Tracker.GG and OP.GG

The Ideal Controller Duo: Omen and Viper

While Clove continues to dominate ranked with a high pick rate at 8.5% and an impressive 53.2% win rate, she may not be the best option on Corrode for competitive-level play. This is primarily because of how Omen and Viper synergize with the map’s layered verticality and paper-thin walls.

Omen excels with his flexible smoke placement and the ability to flash and teleport into key map control zones like elbow and mid connector. His strength lies in disruption and mobility, essential for Corrode’s fast-paced engagements.

Viper, meanwhile, can shape both sites with powerful wall cuts and orb placement. On A, her wall can split the site for deep lurks or enable safer post-plants. On B, it allows lurks into elbow and offers denial utility in tight choke points. Combined, Omen and Viper provide complete smoke control, info denial, and execution support, making them the top controller pair for coordinated play.

Initiator Spotlight: Fade

With a 50.6% win rate and highest initiator pick rate (4.8%), Fade remains a top-tier initiator on Corrode. The map’s tight corners and wallbang-heavy design make her Prowlers ideal for clearing space safely. Her Haunts can easily land in high-value spots on both sites and in mid, enabling both pre-fight recon and post-plant control.

Sova is also viable, particularly in setups abusing wallbang potential with the Odin. However, Fade’s flexibility and synergy with aggressive duelists like Yoru or Neon gives her the edge. In double-Initiator comps, Gekko and KAY/O can also offer value. But neither matches Fade’s all-around impact.

Duelist Role: Yoru Over Reyna

Reyna may top the ranked pick and win rates (11.2% pick rate, 50.7% win rate), but Yoru presents far more value on Corrode’s pro-level meta. His teleport paths synergize beautifully with Viper setups, allowing him to make explosive entries and tricky repositioning plays.

Corrode’s abundance of corners and long lines of sight also favors Neon as a secondary duelist, thanks to her stuns and speed. While Neon’s 60%+ win rate compositions (per OP.GG) indicate she thrives in aggressive comps, Yoru’s deep tactical ceiling makes him the top duelist when building around utility-based executes.

Sentinel Selection: Vyse and Cypher

Despite Cypher being the most-picked sentinel in ranked (6.5%), Vyse appears more potent for Corrode’s specific design. Vyse’s flash and wall utility lets her hold down isolated sites solo, a valuable trait on Corrode where rotations are sometimes late. She also boasts a 51% win rate despite a low pick rate, showing her underappreciated value.

Cypher, still the most picked Sentinel overall, also performs well (50.1% win rate). His tripwires and camera setups are effective across both spike sites. The map’s paper-thin walls and long flank routes make his information-gathering crucial.

The Optimal Team Composition for Corrode

Taking all factors into account - from agent synergy to ranked performance and theoretical map control - the most effective lineup is:

Omen / Viper / Fade / Yoru / Vyse

While not the most-picked comp statistically (compared to ranked favorites like Clove-Reyna comps), this five-agent core aligns with pro-level theory and map-specific strengths. Notably, one of the highest win-rate team comps in ranked - Clove, Cypher, Jett, Sova, Yoru (63.09% win rate) - includes overlapping core picks like Yoru and Cypher, validating this build’s core philosophy.

Conclusion: Think Beyond Ranked Data

Corrode rewards creativity, utility layering, and hybrid defense setups. While ranked play favors flashy fraggers like Reyna or Clove, optimal comp building for Corrode should focus on flexible controllers, information-gathering initiators, and duelists that can capitalize on smokes and walls. Yoru/Viper/Fade/Omen/Vyse is the all-around package, one that enables fast hits, smart defaults, and reactive defenses alike.
