Gen.G becomes the second team to qualify for VALORANT Masters Madrid Playoffs. EDward Gaming, fresh off conquering their nightmare in Paper Rex, had to face the no.1 seed from Pacific in Gen.G.

Despite being up a map, EDG struggled to close against Gen.G, with the latter pulling off a masterful reverse sweep to take the series. This is the first time both rosters have officially faced one another, and it proved to be a massive challenge for both teams, with the level of skill on display especially from ZmjjKK and Meteor on full display.

Gen.G 2-1 EDG

Earning the early tempo on Icebox, EDG showed little mercy as they pressed hard on Gen.G’s map pick, comfortably leading by the half 8-4. Despite adjustments by Gen.G in the second half, they were mostly kept silent by a dominating performance from EDG.

Heading into Split, tensions were high for Gen.G now as they had to take EDG on one of the latter’s best maps. However, to the surprise of many, Gen.G’s new star Texture soared high in the second map, shutting down EDG numerous times in key moments. EDG managed only 5 rounds on Split, leading to Breeze as the decider.

After the match, coach Lo "AfteR" Wen-hsin spoke about the pressure they were under to close out the series:

I think on the first map Icebox, all of our mentality was good at that time, and we had great preparation on that map. And after that, when we started the second map, it seemed like our mentality kind of changed and we were in a bit of a hurry to close out the map.

Breeze was even harder for EDG, as now they were hard-pressed to regain their form mid-series. Gen.G finished the first half of Breeze 11-1. However, EDG managed to take a few more rounds on Attack. Despite that, Gen.G still comfortably closed out the series 13-6.

Asking IGL Byeon "Munchkin" Sang-beom about his experience playing against EDG throughout his career:

As for EDG, we’ve scrimmed them a lot. So, both of us are familiar with each other and I think on Icebox, EDG performed very well like they did in scrims. So, I kind of guess it took a little bit of time for us to come back online. And during maps 2 and 3, I guess we did a great job of figuring them out and making the adjustments that we need to make.
