Ubisoft Confirms Marketplace Will Not Return Anytime Soon
Ubisoft finally broke the silence on one of Rainbow Six Siege's most painful sagas. In a new post titled "Marketplace & Economy: A New Direction" the developer admitted what fans had feared for months: the player-driven Marketplace isn't coming back anytime soon, and honestly, it might never look the same again.
The studio didn't sugarcoat it either. Ubisoft acknowledged the feature opened the door to account theft, botting, and credit transfers, with a sizable chunk of all Marketplace transactions tied to shady activity. On top of that, pricing chaos and distorted item circulation threw the entire in-game economy out of balance.
Why Flipping the Switch Back On Isn't so Simple
And here's the part that stings the most: Ubisoft made clear that just patching the bugs and reopening the doors isn't an option this time.
The team says it needs to rebuild "key foundations" from scratch, covering both security and economic stability, before the Marketplace can safely return. That means stronger account protection, sharper monitoring tools, and a trading system that is actually built to survive inside a balanced economy.
Ubisoft straight-up called this a "long-term effort," which is corporate speak for: don't hold your breath.
So What Happens to Your Renown Now?
While the Marketplace is out of question, Ubisoft isn't leaving the economy untouched. Starting in Season 3, brand-new event packs will only be purchasable with R6 Credits, cutting Renown out of the equation for fresh content. The M.U.T.E. Protocol: Flesh & Metal and Rengoku events mark the last chance for Renown-purchasable new packs before the new changes kick in.
There's a silver lining buried in there, though. Older collections are getting a second life with dual-currency options, so Renown won't completely lose its purpose once the new system rolls out. Masterpieces are also getting easier to grab. Instead of grinding out an entire collection just to unlock one, players will now be able to buy Masterpieces directly with R6 Credits starting in Season 3.
Mixed Feelings
Plenty of players are frustrated that trading is dead for the foreseeable future, but others appreciate that older skins finally feel reachable again through the dual-currency system. Either way, Ubisoft's own wording leaves little room for optimism on a quick fix.
The company called this a long-term effort happening "behind the scenes", while its immediate energy goes toward gameplay improvements instead. For now, anyone sitting on a vault of rare skins waiting for a Marketplace payday will just have to keep waiting.
