Rakan is a high-mobility support in League of Legends known for his speed, charm-based crowd control, and synergy with Xayah. His playstyle revolves around fast engages, quick escapes, and protecting teammates with shields and healing. If you're looking for a support champion who can start fights and get out safely, Rakan is a strong pick.

Understanding Rakan's Abilities

Fey Feathers (Passive)

Rakan’s passive gives him a shield that refreshes after a short period out of combat. The cooldown shortens every time he hits an enemy with an auto attack or ability. This gives him durability when engaging or trading in lane.

He also shares a unique passive with Xayah. If one of them recalls, the other can join by standing nearby. This saves time and helps in coordinated resets.

Gleaming Quill (Q)

Rakan throws a feather that damages the first enemy it hits. If it hits a champion or epic monster, it marks an area. After a short delay or if an ally enters the zone, Rakan heals himself and nearby teammates.

This ability is good for poke and sustain. Use it to trade in lane or heal during team fights.

Grand Entrance (W)

Rakan dashes to a target location. After a brief delay, he knocks up enemies and deals magic damage. This is one of Rakan’s key tools for engaging. It can be interrupted by crowd control if timed poorly.

You can use it to start fights, escape, or stop enemies from advancing. Its short cooldown later in the game makes it a strong team fight tool.

Battle Dance (E)

Rakan dashes to an ally and shields them. He can cast it twice in a short period. If the target is Xayah, he can cast it from a longer range. This lets him jump in with W and get back out quickly.

Use this to shield allies in fights or reposition when engaging or retreating.

The Quickness (R)

Rakan gains a burst of movement speed and charms enemies he touches. It deals magic damage and slows them. The first enemy champion he hits gives him an extra movement speed boost.

This ability works well when chained with Grand Entrance. You can run through multiple enemies and knock them up right after they’re charmed.

Rakan’s Power Spikes

Early Game (0–15 min)

Level 2 is a big power spike. Rakan should aim to hit level 2 before the enemy and look for a fast engage with W. Landing a good combo can lead to early kills.

At level 6, he gains his ultimate, making him a threat in lane and during early skirmishes. Buying boots increases his roaming power. He should look for plays around the map.

Mid Game (15–25 min)

Another level into his ultimate shortens its cooldown. He becomes more reliable in team fights. This is where Rakan’s pick potential increases.

He works best when paired with the jungler to catch out isolated enemies. His mobility helps him get in and out quickly.

Late Game (25+ min)

Rakan’s cooldowns are low at this stage. He becomes great at peeling and starting fights. He must use the fog of war to surprise enemies and avoid getting focused.

Sticking with the team is key. He can’t risk moving alone, especially when the map opens up and team fights decide the game.

Rakan’s Strengths and Weaknesses

Strengths

  • High mobility from W, E, and R

  • Great team fight presence with his ultimate

  • Excellent synergy with Xayah

  • Strong roaming potential with Mobility Boots

Weaknesses

  • Low durability; easy to kill if caught

  • Hard to master due to timing and precision

  • Missing W often leaves him exposed

  • Vulnerable to crowd control while dashing

Playing Rakan in Lane

Aim for early trades once level 2 is reached. Try to hide in bushes to reduce telegraphed engages. If you land a good combo, follow up with Q for healing.

Watch enemy positioning. Stay on the side opposite to their support. This makes it harder for them to avoid your W.

After taking the bot tower, rotate mid to help take the next objective. This opens up the map and lets you roam.

Playing Rakan in Mid Game

Stick close to your teammates when moving around. Avoid face-checking bushes or warding alone. If you get caught, your team will have to fight without their main engager.

Use your mobility to catch enemies out of position. Coordinate with your jungler to pick off targets before objectives spawn.

Place vision before major objectives appear. Deny vision and create opportunities for flanks or engages from fog.

Playing Rakan in Late Game

Stay grouped. Wandering alone is risky. Always know where the enemy is before placing wards.

Use your tools to peel for carries. Shield them with E and keep them safe by zoning with your ultimate.

Look for flanks when enemies group up. Rakan can charm and knock up multiple targets if timed well. This often decides team fights.

How to Play Against Rakan

Avoid clumping during fights. Rakan relies on hitting multiple enemies with his ultimate. Spread out to limit his value.

If he misses his W, trade back quickly. That’s his main tool to engage or escape.

During the laning phase, stay at max range and use crowd control to stop his dashes. Force him to burn cooldowns defensively.

Never fight in tight spaces when his ultimate is ready. He can control the fight with ease in jungle corridors or near objectives.

Final Thoughts

Rakan is a fast-paced support who thrives on clean engages and quick decisions. He can turn fights with a single combo, but poor positioning punishes him hard. If you like champions who rely on timing and movement, Rakan is worth learning. He rewards coordination, map awareness, and strong mechanics. He is known for his speed and crowd control in League of Legends.
