It’s that time of year again when pro teams will be competing in Rocket League Winter Cups! These two day tournaments are set to take place across all seven regions in the next couple of weeks. It’s worth noting that this time, not every region will be competing over the same weekend so there will be plenty of time for fans to tune in for multiple games and catch all of the action.

Rocket League Winter Cups: One Step Closer to the Major

Why watch Rocket League Winter Cups

The Rocket League Winter Cups are the next stop along the journey toward the Winter Major in April. With only 16 places available at the Major, competition is going to be fierce. Each of the teams will be competing to earn enough RLCS points to place them at the top of the region.

RLCS Format - if it ain’t broke

Veteran fans need not worry, the Winter Cups will follow a pretty standard format. Each of the 7 Rocket League Winter Cups will be split into a group stage and playoffs.

  • 16 teams will be split into 4 groups of 4.
  • They will compete in a round robin best of 5 format.
  • The top 3 teams will proceed but the 4th place team in each group is eliminated.
  • The top 12 teams qualify to the playoffs.
  • Teams must compete in a single elimination bracket.
  • The first round is a best of 5 with every other game being a best of 7.

With the final goal being the World Championship and with a long way to go, teams will be fighting to earn as many RLCS points as possible. With so much on the line, it’s no surprise that the Winter Cups are part of the reason the RLCS is so popular! The first place team in every region will earn 20 points, placing them significantly higher than the rest and giving a significant advantage when it comes to the points rankings.

Who to watch - The Game You Can’t Miss

Rocket League fans rejoice, there are so many amazing games to come. However, some are a little more exciting than others. With so few top tier tournaments and so many teams, only the very best in the world can compete.

Not every region has the matches all booked in just yet. You’ll need to check out North America to see Gen.G Mobil1 Racing in action. For some more brand new talent, there’s always the brand new Ninjas in Pyjamas roster competing in South America. There’s a lot to come for the RLCS Winter Cups!
