Rocket League tournaments have become a staple in the world of competitive gaming. Players and fans alike come together to witness some of the most exhilarating matches in esports history. With a couple of Majors still left to come in 2023, it’s clear that Rocket League isn’t going anywhere!

Rocket League Tournaments: History of the Best eFootball Game

Back to the Beginning

The first Rocket League tournament was held in 2016, just a year after the game's initial release. The tournament, called the Rocket League Championship Series (RLCS), was organized by the game's developer, Psyonix. It featured an impressive prize pool of $75,000. The tournament was a huge success, attracting some of the best players in the world and drawing in a large audience of fans.

Since then, RL tournaments have only grown in size and popularity. The RLCS has become an annual event, with each year's tournament featuring a larger prize pool than the last. In 2020, the RLCS Season 9 World Championship had a prize pool of $1,000,000. This made it one of the most lucrative tournaments in all of esports!

In addition to the RLCS, there are a number of other Rocket League tournaments that take place throughout the year, including the RLCS Winter Cups that are due to take place in the coming weeks. These tournaments not only provide opportunities for players to compete at the highest level, but also give fans a chance to watch their favorite teams and players in action.

Why are Rocket League Tournaments so popular?

One of the most exciting things about Rocket League tournaments is the unpredictability of the matches. With a game that involves cars flying through the air and bouncing off walls, there are always opportunities for incredible plays and comebacks. Whether it's a clutch save, a stunning aerial goal, or a miraculous double-touch, RL tournaments are always full of moments that leave fans on the edge of their seats.

As Rocket League tournaments have grown in popularity, so too has the game's competitive scene. Top teams from around the world compete in regional leagues, with the best teams earning a spot in the RLCS. The RLCS itself is divided into multiple regions. They include North America, Europe, South America, and Oceania among others. Each region holds its own set of tournaments and competitions. They all find themselves linked in the RLCS Global Rankings before Majors and the World Championship.

Rocket League tournaments have come a long way since the game's release in 2015. From small-scale competitions to multi-million dollar tournaments, Rocket League has established itself as one of the most exciting and unpredictable esports out there. With a player base that’s only growing with each passing year, perhaps RL will find itself in the major leagues with CS:GO and Dota 2.

With the game's unique blend of soccer and driving and its constantly evolving competitive scene, Rocket League tournaments are sure to continue to captivate audiences for years to come.
